Some Planet/Atlantis:
"How much longer are you going to be Rodney?" Sheppard asked.
"I shouldn’t be much longer," McKay replied, "I want to make sure I have enough readings from this energy source and images of the ancient language for Elizabeth to look at."
When McKay was finally done Sheppard’s team minus Teyla, who was on New Athosia, made their way back to the Gate. Upon entering the Gate, something went right through Sheppard and then he appeared on the other side of the Gate without McKay or Dex. Sheppard looked around for them, but didn’t see them anywhere so he went to the control room.
Sheppard asked the technician, Chuck, about McKay and Dex and replied, "McKay is in his lab and Dex is in the gym. Are you alright Colonel Sheppard?"
Sheppard didn’t get the chance to reply because Weir entered the control room, so he told her what happened.
"John that mission happened 3 years ago," Weir replied, "Maybe you should get checked out in the infirmary while you’re there. Carson wanted me to inform you the minute you got back that Teyla’s in the infirmary."
"What happened to her?" Sheppard asked.
"Carson will tell you everything," Weir replied.
The Infirmary:
Sheppard walked in and headed straight for Teyla. Beckett saw him and walked over. Beckett started talking knowing Sheppard was going to ask the "what happened" question. "She hit her head pretty bad, but it’s not too serious just enough that she was knocked unconscious and has yet to wake up."
Sheppard sat down in the chair next to the bed and Beckett left to give him some privacy. Later that day Sheppard was getting on Beckett’s last nerves.
"Colonel you should go back to your quarters to get some sleep," Beckett said, "I’ll inform you the minute she wakes up."
All Sheppard did was sit back down in the chair.
"If you’re not going to leave," Beckett said, "at least lie down in an empty bed. I’ll let you know when I need it."
Sheppard got up from the chair and laid down on the empty bed nearest Teyla. Beckett left when he was sure Sheppard would stay there. A few hours after Sheppard fell asleep Teyla woke up and a nurse informed Dr. Beckett
"Teyla how to you feel?" Beckett asked.
"My head hurts," Teyla replied.
"That’s to be expected," Beckett said, "After all you did hit your head. Now that you’re awake I’ll run some tests to determine how long you will have to stay in the infirmary. I’ll let Sheppard know that you’re awake."
Teyla noticed Sheppard sleeping on the bed to the right and said, "Let him sleep Dr. Beckett."
"Alright then I’ll get those tests set up," Beckett said.
When Sheppard did wake up, he noticed Teyla was asleep and figured she woke up when he was asleep. He walked over to Beckett’s desk and asked him when Teyla woke up.
"She was awake when you were asleep. She told me not to wake you," Beckett said.
"How long will she have to be here?" Sheppard asked.
"About 24-48 hours but if that changes I’ll let you know," Beckett replied.
"Thanks Doc," Sheppard said as he was about to leave but then he asked, "Do you know what the date is?"
Beckett told him and then asked why he wanted to know.
"Well the last thing I remember before coming back to Atlantis was going though the gate with McKay and Ronon but when I appeared on the other side I was the only the one there," Sheppard said and he continued to tell him everything he told Weir.
"Let me run a body scan on you to make sure nothing is wrong," Beckett said.
Sheppard and Teyla’s Quarters:
Sheppard left when Beckett could find nothing wrong and he would return later when Teyla was awake. After leaving, he went straight to his quarters or so he thought. When he did find them. after some help, he noticed Teyla’s stuff was there as well, but he didn’t think much of it. He grabbed his Sudoku book off his desk and got comfortable on the bed before doing a puzzle. A few hours passed and Sheppard was having trouble trying to figure out another puzzle he had started after he finished the other one, so he took a break. He went to the mess hall to get something to eat and then headed to the infirmary to check on Teyla before coming back to his quarters to turn in for the night. The next night he turned in as usual, but when he woke up in the morning he found a brown haired head on shoulder sleeping. He thought this weird that Teyla’s head was on his shoulder and her stuff in his quarters. The last time he checked he and Teyla weren’t married but this was 3 years later from the last time he checked.
Teyla woke up moments later and said, "Good morning John."
"You weren’t here last night when I went to sleep," Sheppard said.
"It was late when Dr. Beckett released me from the infirmary," Teyla said, "Dr. Beckett told me what you told him."
"Which was?" Sheppard asked.
"You do not remember anything from the past 3 years," Teyla said.
Sheppard nodded yes and noticed Teyla’s left had, "When –"
Teyla interrupted him and said, "4 months ago and the other one 5 months ago. You put as you called it in ‘an inscription’ on my wedding ring ‘Forever Loving You JS.’"
Sheppard was about to say something else but Teyla spoke instead, "Any problems you had in your past you worked them out."
That would explain why Teyla’s stuff was in here and why Teyla’s head was on my shoulder Sheppard thought. He also thought he could get use to this so he closed his eyes and went back to sleep. Teyla noticed that Sheppard had gone back to sleep. It was still early, so she didn’t bother to wake him and instead put her head back on his shoulder.
Later that morning when Teyla awoke, she started feeling sick and quietly got up so she wouldn’t wake Sheppard and went to the bathroom. When she came back and sat down on the edge of the bed, Sheppard yawned and looked at her. He moved closer to her and asked, "Are you feeling alright?"
"No, I do not feel well," Teyla replied.
"Maybe you should see Dr. Beckett," Sheppard said.
"If I feel this way tomorrow," Teyla said, "I will."
Later that day, Teyla paid a visit to the infirmary and told Dr. Beckett that she didn’t feel well. When the check-up ended and she found out why she wasn’t feeling well, she left the infirmary. She would have some news to tell Sheppard. Teyla stopped at the mess hall to get something to eat before she returned to her and Sheppard’s quarters. When Sheppard walked into the room, he found Teyla asleep on the bed. He covered her up with a blanket and decided he would tell her about the planet Zelenka found with something worth checking out later when she was awake. Teyla awoke a couple of hours later and noticed the blanket covering her up. She looked around and found Sheppard sitting on the couch doing a Sudoku puzzle. Teyla quietly got up from the bed and walked over to the couch to sit next to Sheppard. Sheppard looked to his right to find Teyla sitting there and said, "I didn’t hear you wake up."
"I did not want to disturb you," Teyla said.
"That’s ok," Sheppard said, "I could use a break. I’ve been staring at this puzzle for about a half hour. How about we go to the mess hall and get something to eat?"
"I have already eaten before I came back here and fell asleep," Teyla replied.
"Zelenka was looking through the database and came across a planet that has something we should check out."
"Dr. Beckett wants me to remain on light duty for the rest of the week," Teyla said.
"I take it you feel much better then you did this morning?" Sheppard asked.
She nodded yes as he pulled her closer and she tried to hide a smile forming across her lips.
"I know you told me you’ve eaten," Sheppard said, "but would care to join me in the mess hall while I eat?"
Teyla nodded yes and they got up and went to the mess hall.
The Mess Hall:
Sheppard was eating and noticed Teyla grabbing bits of fruit off his plate before he said, "You told me you weren’t hungry."
She told him that she wasn’t and Sheppard asked her, "Would you like me to get you some food?"
She nodded no and he asked, "Are you sure you are feeling alright?"
"I feel fine," Teyla replied as she tried to hide another smile.
Sheppard and Teyla’s Quarters:
The next morning Teyla awoke with the same sick feeling she had yesterday morning. Sheppard woke up and found her sitting on the edge of the bed.
"Do you feel sick again?" Sheppard asked.
Teyla nodded yes and he said, "Remember you promised me you would see Dr. Beckett today if you felt this way again."
She nodded yes and told him she would even thou she saw him yesterday. She would tell him the news and that she saw Dr. Beckett yesterday tonight after dinner.
The Gate Room:
Later that day, Sheppard was in the Gate Room waiting with Zelenka and Dex for Major Lorne’s team, so they could leave when Sheppard spotted Teyla walking up stairs near the ramp. He walked over to her and asked, "Come to see me off?"
"No, not exactly," Teyla replied, "I came to tell you that I did not see Dr. Beckett today."
"Teyla you promised," Sheppard said as he interrupted her.
"John let me finish," Teyla said, "I saw him yesterday."
"And you didn’t tell me," Sheppard said.
"No, I thought it best not to wait." Teyla said.
"Given your head and all," Sheppard said.
Teyla nodded yes and Sheppard asked, "What did he say?"
"I will tell you tonight after dinner," Teyla said.
"So you are going to make me wait?" Sheppard asked.
Teyla nodded yes, but this time she couldn’t hide her smile.
Sheppard noticed Teyla smiling at the same time Major Lorne and his team entered the Gate Room out of the corner of his eye. He gave her a quick kiss and told her he would see her when he returned before telling the technician to dial the Gate. When he turned to look at Teyla, he found that she had a hand in her stomach and was smiling. He entered the Gate with the others at the same moment she walked away.
The Infirmary:
Sheppard awoke to find himself in the infirmary. Dr. Beckett walked over to him and said, "It’s good to see that you’re awake Colonel. What’s the last thing you remember?"
"Well I got knocked out by something then the next thing I knew I was 3 years into the future before waking up here."
"You have been in a coma for the past 12 hours," Beckett said.
"That’s strange because I clearly remember being in the future or so I thought," Sheppard said.
"I’ll let the others know you’re awake," Beckett said.
He returned sometime minutes later with Teyla, McKay, Dex and Weir.
"It’s like I was on the planet one minute and then the next minute 3 years into the future," Sheppard said, "Being in the future felt so real to me."
"I looked up everything I could on the planet we were on and so far no mention of that thing that went through you," McKay said, "not even a name, but I’ll keep looking."
"I think we should let Colonel Sheppard get some rest," Beckett said.
After Weir, Dex and McKay left the infirmary, Sheppard asked, "Doc is there anyway I can get some food?"
Dr. Beckett nodded yes and told Teyla not to stay too long. Before Teyla could think of something to say, Beckett had returned with some food.
"I will see you in the morning John," Teyla said, "so you can eat and rest."
Sheppard watched Teyla walk out of the infirmary before he started eating. After he finished eating, he tried to get some rest and moments later he found himself back in the future.
Gate Room/Sheppard and Teyla’s Quarters:
This time he was not the only one to step out of the Gate because Dex was with him. He wondered where the others were, since he could clearly see they weren’t in the Gate Room.
Dex turned to Sheppard and said, "I’ll go find McKay and take him back to the planet."
Sheppard told him ok even thou he didn’t know what was going on. He put up his gear and went straight to where his quarters were the last time he was in the future. When he got there, Teyla was sitting on the couch wearing a dress.
"How did the mission go?" Teyla asked.
"It went fine," Sheppard replied, "What’s with the dress?"
"For tonight’s dinner," Teyla replied, "and then the wait for the news will be over."
"Can you tell me what it is?" Sheppard said.
"As I said earlier John, you will have to wait until after dinner," Teyla replied.
Sheppard then realized when he stepped out of the Gate with Dex he was returning from the mission that he had left for before waking up in the infirmary. He then told Teyla he would get ready for dinner. When he was changed, they headed for the mess hall. After dinner they headed back to their quarters, but before Sheppard could say anything to Teyla she went into the bathroom, and when she returned she was not wearing the dress but instead pajamas.
"Now are you going to tell me what the news is?" Sheppard asked.
Teyla nodded yes and told him to sit down. Sheppard sat down on the couch and Teyla sat next to him. She told him the news and Sheppard was relived and happy when she told him.
"I know it is a little sooner then we had planned," Teyla said.
"I don’t remember that?" Sheppard asked.
"When we got married we had agreed to wait about 7 months before we started having children," Teyla replied.
"How far along did Dr. Beckett say you were?" Sheppard asked.
"About a month," Teyla replied.
"Well I work fast," Sheppard said even thou he didn’t remember that night, "So much for waiting the 7 months."
Teyla told him some things Dr. Beckett said would happen before she yawned.
Sheppard could see she was tired and said, "You looked tired why don’t you go to bed."
"In a minute," Teyla said as she moved to sit on Sheppard’s lap and rest her head on his shoulder.
"Even thou it was a little sooner then we planned I’m very happy and I’ll tell you how happy I am," Sheppard said and then he gave her a long kiss.
The next thing he knew was Teyla had fallen asleep, so he carried her to bed and covered her up. Before changing for bed and joining her, he gave her another kiss this time on the forehead.
The next day Sheppard was called to Weir’s office and she told him that his presence was needed back on the planet. He then let Teyla know that he was heading back to the planet. When he entered the Gate, he found himself in the infirmary once again.
The Infirmary:
"What the-?" Sheppard asked as Beckett walked over to him.
"You were in a coma for about 4 and half hours," Beckett replied.
"But why?" Sheppard asked.
"Rodney is trying to figure that out," Beckett replied.
4 hours later McKay walked into tell him that he had found something, but Beckett stopped him.
"He entered back into a coma about a half hour ago," Beckett said.
"Darn I had something to tell him about what’s been happening to him," McKay said.
Beckett then asked him what he had found out.
Atlantis’ Gate Room:
"Not again," Sheppard said.
Weir walked down the stairs and over to Sheppard. "What did you find out?"
Sheppard asked what the something was, but before Weir could say anything the Gate activated. It was Major Lorne’s team. When they came through the Gate, they had told Weir that they had something to tell her.
"We think we may know what happened to Stackhouse and Zelenka," Lorne said, "We think there was a cave-in where Zelenka was checking out something."
"I’ll get my team together and mount a rescue," Sheppard said.
"That won’t be necessary Colonel," Lorne said, "My team can handle it thou I would like to request some medics just in case."
Weir made the call to the infirmary and then Lorne told them they got a hold of Zelenka and he said that he was alright but Stackhouse has sprained his ankle.
When the medics arrived and Weir was back in the Control Room, Sheppard left. He knew Major Lorne’s team could handle it, and if it was of real great importance that his team needed to be there Lorne would have said so.
Sheppard and Teyla’s Quarters:
Sheppard walked in and didn’t find Teyla anywhere in the room. When he noticed the time on his watch, he probably figured she was in the mess hall eating lunch. He got comfortable on the bed and began to read a magazine that was on the nightstand. At some point he must have fallen asleep, because he didn’t hear Teyla come into the room. Teyla saw him asleep on the bed and put the magazine back on the nightstand before going over to the left side of the bed. When Sheppard woke up about 2 hours later, he found Teyla asleep with her head on his chest and a hand on her belly. He looked down at Teyla and noticed her belly had a noticeable bump. The last time he had seen Teyla her belly had been flat and she had told him about the baby. He thought for second and wondered if someone or something was trying to tell him something. Teyla woke up to find Sheppard lost in thought. She waited a minute, yawning in the process, before she asked Sheppard what he was thinking about.
When she asked, he replied, "Nothing much, so when did you come in?"
"When you were asleep," Teyla replied.
Sometime in the middle of the night Teyla woke up. The next thing she did was wake up Sheppard.
When Sheppard woke up he asked, "What’s the matter Teyla? Is there something wrong?"
Teyla told him nothing, and when he was about to ask why she woke him up she grabbed his hand. The next thing Sheppard knew was Teyla had placed his hand on her belly. When he felt something and saw smile on Teyla’s face, he gave her a tender kiss. Sheppard didn’t say a word after the kiss and instead went back to sleep, but he kept his hand right where Teyla had placed.
A little more than a day later Sheppard was called to the Control Room. He noticed Teyla still asleep, so he got up quietly and put on his bathrobe and boots. When he got to the Control Room, Weir was waiting for him.
The Control Room:
"A group of scientists, McKay included, got themselves trapped and when they missed radio call we called them. Major Lorne says he would have radioed, but McKay needed to take some of the jumper’s systems offline and it would have take him more then half a day to reach the Gate by foot. They request Dr. Zelenka’s help and I told them he would be there within the hour," Weir said.
"I’ll get ready," Sheppard said, "and I’ll get Ronon on my way to the Jumper Bay."
Sheppard and Teyla’s Quarters:
When he was ready to make his way to the Jumper Bay, he thought about waking up Teyla to tell her that he was needed for a mission, but he thought against it because she needed her sleep, so instead he gave her a kiss on the forehead before he headed out the door.
Jumper Bay/Control Room:
When Sheppard and Dex got to the Jumper Bay, Zelenka was there waiting for them. Once everyone was in the jumper, Sheppard flew it to the Gate Room and then the planet once the Gate was dialed.
The Infirmary:
"This time you were in a coma for about 7 hours," Dr. Beckett said and before Sheppard had a chance to say anything, "Just as you went into a coma, McKay walked in to tell you something. I’ll tell him your awake, so he can tell you himself."
About 5 minutes later, Beckett walked back to Sheppard with McKay behind him.
"I found out the purpose of what happened to you from the data Zelenka brought back from the planet," McKay said, "You said you had been in the future when you’re in a coma."
"Yeah," Sheppard said, "but what does that have to do with it?"
"What do you want to have happen in your life more then anything?" McKay asked.
Sheppard looked away for a second only to see Teyla heading in this direction, and then he looked back at Beckett and McKay to say something to them, "So you think this is the purpose."
McKay nodded yes and then told him most definitely.
"You haven’t found a way to stop this?" Sheppard asked, "I would like to, at least, get a decent night’s sleep instead of ending up a coma every time."
"I better get back to work then," McKay replied before leaving the infirmary.
"Doc how am I suppose to get some rest if I keep ending up in coma?" Sheppard asked.
"I’ll see what I can do," Beckett replied then he walked away.
"I came to see how you are doing," Teyla said.
"Well Beckett’s going to see what he can do, so I can get some rest without ending up in a coma," Sheppard said.
"I take it Dr. McKay still has not made any progress yet?" Teyla asked.
"In regards to stopping my comas," Sheppard replied, "then no."
Before Sheppard and Teyla could say anything else, Beckett had returned with something in his hand.
"I have a medicine here that should help you get some rest," Beckett said, "without the comas."
"I will see you later then John," Teyla said, "and I hope you will be able to get some real rest."
Sheppard told Teyla I hope so as he watched her walk out of the infirmary and Beckett prepared the medicine. After Beckett gave him the medicine, he found himself once again in the Gate Room.
The Gate Room/Weir’s Office:
Darn medicine. It didn’t even work Sheppard thought. I wonder what Beckett will say when I get out of this coma.
"So was that a great mission or what," Dex said, "Kicking some enemy butt."
"I’ll get this stuff to Weir and Zelenka," McKay said, "so we can start going over it."
This was weird Sheppard thought. This was the first time in one of his comas that there were other people in the Gate Room with him other then the usual Gate Room guards, excluding the one time Dex was with him.
In Weir’s office, McKay was explaining to Weir what they had found on the mission. After he was done, Weir told them they would discuss it in more detail in the Conference Room in hour.
Sheppard and Teyla’s Quarters:
When Sheppard walked, in he found Teyla sitting on the couch putting on her shoes.
"I hope you did not forget about my doctor’s appointment in 2 hours," Teyla said.
"About that, I may have to meet you there," Sheppard said, "Weir scheduled a meeting about the mission when we got back, but don’t worry it’s an hour before your appointment."
He sat down next to Teyla and she put her head on his shoulder like she was about to fall asleep.
"Hey don’t fall asleep now or you might miss your appointment," Sheppard said, "What do you say to getting some lunch and then you can rest after your appointment."
Teyla didn’t answer him grabbing his hand instead to place it on her belly. Sheppard looked down at her belly and noticed it was bigger then last time when it was just a noticeable bump. This time when he felt something he lifted her shirt just enough, so he could see some skin on her belly. Teyla moved her head from his shoulder about to ask him what he was doing, when he leaned down and placed a kiss on her belly. He looked up at Teyla only to find a huge smile across her face, so he gave here a tender kiss. When she did get up, so they could leave for lunch, she place a hand on her back.
"Your back bothering you?" Sheppard asked.
She told him yes and he got up and started massaging it for minute. He then promised her a back massage later. After lunch, he reminded Teyla that he would meet her in the infirmary when the meeting was over. During the meeting Sheppard, let McKay and Dex do most of the talking since he didn’t remember anything about the mission. Once the meeting was over, he headed straight to the infirmary for Teyla’s appointment.
The Infirmary:
About a minute after he walked in Teyla did. Beckett walked in to check on a patient when he saw Teyla and Sheppard.
"Have a seat Teyla and I will be right with you," Beckett said.
Teyla sat down on an empty bed and when Sheppard looked at her he saw her yawn. He asked her if she was tired and she told him yes.
Beckett walked over and started Teyla’s check-up. When he was listening to the baby’s heart he had to take a second listen because he had heard something else, but it was nothing to be concerned about. "Okay let’s have a look at the baby."
When the baby did appear on the screen, so did something else and Beckett said as he pointed at the screen, "Here is one baby and here is the second baby."
"So you are saying there are twins in there?" Sheppard asked.
Beckett nodded yes and said, "I will get you some pictures of this."
After Beckett walked away, Sheppard looked at Teyla to find her staring at the monitor, "So what do you think about this?"
Teyla responded by turning her head to look at him and giving him a huge smile.
"Well you know what this means Teyla," Sheppard said, "Not only do I work fast, but I work really fast."
"It would seem that way John," Teyla said still smiling.
"Well tonight besides that backrub, I think I’ll throw in a foot massage and I’ll even get a bath ready for you. After all, you deserve it with this kind of news and just for the fact that you are one beautiful loving woman," Sheppard said right before he gave her a quick kiss and Beckett returned with the pictures.
Sheppard and Teyla’s Quarters:
Later that night after dinner, Sheppard ran a bath for Teyla and while she was taking a bath he got ready to give her the massages. When Teyla was done with her bath, she came out of the bathroom wearing dark purple pajamas.
"Sit down on the bed," Sheppard said. "and I’ll give you the backrub first."
Teyla sat down on the bed and he started to massage her back. Some time during the foot massage, he noticed that Teyla had fallen asleep so he covered her up and kissed her on the forehead.
The next day Sheppard was called to the Control Room for a mission that would leave in 2 hours. When he returned to his and Teyla’s quarters, he found her awake.
"What are you doing awake?" Sheppard asked, "You need your sleep."
"I had trouble getting back to sleep," Teyla replied.
"Anything I can do help you get back to sleep?" Sheppard asked, "I have some time before I have to leave for mission."
"No not really," Teyla replied as she felt a strong kick from one of the babies.
Sheppard hurried over to her and asked her what was wrong when he saw the look on her face. Teyla told him that she was alright and grabbed one of his hands to put right where she felt the strong kick.
"You know Teyla," Sheppard said, "it’s hard to believe that there’s two babies in there."
Teyla picked up the sheet with the pictures on it from the nightstand and they both stared at it for a few minutes the Sheppard realized what time it was. Before he left to get ready for the mission, he felt a kick from the spot Teyla had placed his hand. He turned to look at her to see her smiling and no longer looking at the picture. This time when he lifted her shirt to see some skin he placed two kisses on her belly, one for each baby, then he gave Teyla a kiss.
When he entered the Gate, he found himself once again in the infirmary where he could find out what Doctor Beckett would say about the medicine.
The Infirmary:
"You went into a coma for about 6 hours," Beckett said, "and I’m still trying to figure out why the medicine didn’t work."
"Is there anything else you can try?" Sheppard asked.
"I think the best way to stop your comas is to let McKay and Zelenka figure this out," Beckett replied.
"Well I hope they hurry up," Sheppard said.
McKay’s Lab:
McKay and Zelenka were going over the data from the planet some more to find a way to stop Sheppard’s comas when Zelenka found something in the portion he had.
"I think I may have found something," Zelenka said.
McKay walked over to Zelenka to see what he had found and said after he saw it, "There has to be a catch. It can’t be that easy."
They looked through the rest of Zelenka’s portion for some type of catch and there wasn’t, but there was something else missing.
"So far there has been no information on the machine itself," McKay said, "How are we are suppose to even turn the thing on, off, or even work the darn thing. How many pages have we gone through so far?"
Zelenka told him 500 which meant they had 500 more to go through.
"I’ll go tell Beckett and Sheppard," McKay said.
The Infirmary:
Beckett was sitting at his desk working on some paperwork when he looked up to find McKay standing there.
"I found some information that you and Sheppard would like to know," McKay said.
Beckett got up out of his chair and they walked over to Sheppard.
Sheppard saw them walking over to him and asked, "So what are my chances of some coma free sleep?"
"Well I figured out how to stop the comas," McKay said, "All you have to do is stay awake for 24 hours while I turn it off if it’s still on or on then off if it’s off."
"Ok let’s get started," Sheppard said, "Wait I sense a but coming."
"I’m still looking for information on the actual machine," McKay said.
"How long is that going to take?" Sheppard asked.
"Well I’ve got about 500 pages left out of 1,000 pages totals," McKay replied, "but if Radek keeps helping me then it won’t take as long so about a day. I’m just going to get back to work."
McKay left and Sheppard asked Beckett, "What am I suppose to do in the mean time?"
"Try and get some rest," Beckett replied, "while I have a nurse get you some food."
"That won’t be easy with the comas," Sheppard said.
Later after Sheppard ate. he tried to get some rest, but he ended up in another coma.
The Gate Room:
Sheppard looked around the Gate Room to find Dex complaining to McKay about something.
"That was the most boring planet I have been on," Dex said to McKay.
"Well I’m sorry about that," McKay said, "I was sure that planet had Zed PM. I’ll go tell Dr. Weir that the planet was a bust."
Sheppard saw McKay and Dex head in different directions so he left the Gate Room to get rid of his gear and head to his and Teyla’s quarters.
Sheppard and Teyla’s Quarters:
When he reached them, he excepted to find Teyla asleep, but she wasn’t around. He decided to take a shower while he waited for her. After his shower, he sat down on the couch and looked at a magazine. At some point, he must have fallen asleep because when he woke up the magazine was on his lap and Teyla’s head on his shoulder. He looked down at her belly to find that it was even bigger then it was last time, so he figured the timeframe was sometime near her due date. Teyla woke up with a yawn and found Sheppard awake.
"How was the mission?" Teyla asked.
"Ronon complained to McKay that the planet was boring because there was no ZPM to be found," Sheppard replied, "So how are the babies?"
"They are asleep," Teyla said right before one of the babies gave out a strong kick.
"They must like the strong kicks," Sheppard said, "or they know I’m home."
"You still have not told me what you want for our 1 year anniversary," Teyla said after smiling at his last comment.
"I don’t need anything Teyla. I have everything I need," Sheppard said as he placed a hand on her belly and felt on a strong kick, "Your mother hasn’t been teaching you two to spar already has she."
Teyla responded by moving her head to look at him, so she could smile and laugh at his comment. "Are you sure you do not want anything."
"I am sure," Sheppard replied and then he gave her a long kiss.
Later that day after dinner, Teyla went to bed and while Sheppard was getting ready for bed he found a note amongst his pajamas. The note had the plans for an anniversary dinner and explained what was in Teyla’s gift and where it was hidden. Sheppard would have to make sure Teyla didn’t see this or she would know what see was getting so he finished reading it and put it back in the drawer. After getting ready for bed, he decided to read one of his golf magazines as it was still early. He made sure the only light that was on was near the couch. He then sat down on the couch and began to read the magazine. The next thing he knew was it was morning and Teyla was sitting next to him.
"Good morning John and Happy Anniversary," Teyla said.
Sheppard said the same to her, gave her a quick kiss and then said, "You know when I woke up I expected to find you in bed still asleep because if you were I would’ve surprised you with breakfast in bed, but I’ll tell you what you go back to bed. Then I’ll get showered and dressed, so that I can go to the mess hall and you can still have you breakfast in bed."
Later that morning after Teyla had her breakfast in bed, she got ready for her doctor’s appointment. At her appointment, Sheppard found out that there were 2 weeks left before the babies would be born. Once her appointment was over and they were back at their quarter’s, Teyla laid down on the bed to take a nap, which allowed Sheppard to get ready for that night’s dinner without her finding out anything. The only time he woke her during her nap was to eat something for lunch otherwise he let her sleep until dinnertime.
When it was dinnertime, he walked over to Teyla and tried to calmly wake her up. When he succeeded, she said with a yawn, "I am sorry I did not mean to sleep that long."
"It’s alright you have a very good reason," Sheppard said placing a hand on her belly and giving her a huge smile that caused her to smile back.
"I will get changed for dinner," Teyla said still smiling as she tried to get up off the bed, but this time the attempt failed.
Sheppard helped her get up and she went to get changed. When she returned, she saw Sheppard holding a basket in one hand a bag in the other.
"Dinner," Sheppard said, "and part of your gift."
Hallway/Mess Hall:
He headed towards the door and Teyla was upset that he didn’t say anything about her dress, but as they were walking in the hallway he whispered something in her ear about the dress which caused her to smile and no longer be upset at him.
"Where are we going?" Teyla asked.
"You’ll find out soon enough," Sheppard replied, "It’s all part of the surprise."
They kept walking until they reached the mess hall then Sheppard told Teyla to close her eyes. She did as he said even though she was still unsure of what he was up to. He carefully led her to an outside part of the mess hall and told her to open her eyes when they got there. What she saw when she opened her eyes was a table with a checkered table cloth that was set for dinner and in the center of the table was a small vase with 4 roses in it. The only thing she could think to do at the moment was to give him a sweet tender kiss.
"Glad you like it," Sheppard said, "We better eat before the food gets cold."
He set the basket down and the bag down so he could pull out a chair for Teyla. When he got out the food, Teyla asked what they were having and he told her fried chicken with salad, potatoes and lemonade which she noticed was in wine shaped bottle when he placed it on the table.
Sheppard asked after they finished eating, "Ready for your gift?"
Teyla nodded yes while he moved some plates to the side of the table before he set the gift on the table for her to open.
"I hope you like it," Sheppard said as Teyla began to open it.
The first thing she pulled out was a book on ferris wheels and Sheppard said, "Well now I can show you why I like ferris wheels."
Teyla smiled, set the book aside and said, "I wonder what else is in here."
The next things she pulled out were the jiffy pop and the buttered popcorn flavored jelly beans. Sheppard explained the jiffy pop and the jelly beans to her then said, "There’s more popcorn in our quarters. 3 bags of buttered and a tin container full of flavored popcorn."
Teyla tried one of the jelly beans and found that it did, indeed, taste like popcorn. She set the jelly beans aside and continued to open her gift. When she pulled out the next gift, Sheppard said, "I couldn’t resist that’s why there’s two well one for each twin."
"I wonder what made you think of the baby clothes," Teyla said with a smile as she rubbed her belly when one of the twins kicked.
"There should be one more thing in the bag," Sheppard said.
Teyla went back to the bag and pulled out the last part of the gift which was in a small box. She opened the box to find a piece of jewelry in it.
"Here let me help you put it on," Sheppard said as he got up and walked over to her, so he could help her.
Once Teyla had it on, he told her to open it. "I had made especially for you. It’s an oval shaped locket that can hold 6 pictures. The middle part opens up so it can hold a total of 4.
Teyla noticed one of the 6 slots was already filled with a picture of Sheppard and she smiled as she said, "It is beautiful John. Thank you."
Sheppard looked down at Teyla’s face before giving her a sweet tender kiss. "I’m glad you like it."
She wondered what else he planed for the rest of the evening as he knelt down next to her and placed a hand on her belly. "Now no funny stuff, so your mother and I can enjoy the rest of our anniversary."
Teyla laughed at Sheppard’s comment as one of the twins kicked. Sheppard then asked her what she wanted for dessert cherry or blueberry cheesecake. When he saw the look on her face he knew she wanted a slice of both. He told her he would go get the dessert and while he was gone Teyla put the rest of her gifts back in the bag.
When he returned with the dessert, Teyla asked him if they could return to their quarters as she was getting tried. He told her sure and put the dessert and the rest of the lemonade in the basket, so they could they could have to later. Teyla was about to grab the bag, but Sheppard stopped her and grabbed the bag instead. They left the mess hall and headed in the direction of their quarters but on the way Teyla grabbed her stomach.
Sheppard looked at her and asked, "What’s wrong Teyla?"
Teyla looked at him and replied, "Get me to the infirmary. I just felt a contraction."
Sheppard did his best to get Teyla to the infirmary as quickly possible.
The Infirmary:
Once they entered the infirmary, Sheppard went to get Dr. Beckett so he could examine Teyla. Dr. Beckett returned with Sheppard and asked Teyla how she was feeling as he started examining her. She told him she felt find now, but earlier she felt a contraction. Dr. Beckett took a few moments to finish examining her and come to one conclusion. He told Teyla that it was false labor and then asked if she had any questions. She told him no, but said she would stop by if she did.
Sheppard asked Dr. Beckett, "Should we expect this to happen again?"
Dr. Beckett told them yes and told them if that was all he would see them at Teyla’s next appointment. Teyla got up off the bed she was sitting on and headed out of the infirmary with Sheppard as Dr. Beckett went back to his other patients.
Sheppard and Teyla’s Quarters:
When they entered their quarters, Teyla sat down on the couch and Sheppard set the bag and basket off to the side of the room before going over to the couch to move an ottoman closer to Teyla’s feet.
Sheppard said as put her feet on the ottoman, "You relax while I go get your bath started. I’ll let you know when it’s ready."
About 5 minutes later, Sheppard returned to let her know that her bath was ready. During her bath, he told her she had the option of a back scrub or a full body scrub and she chose the latter. After the bath, she came out of the bathroom dressed in Athiosian nightwear.
"So are you ready for the cheesecake?" Sheppard asked.
"Not quite John," Teyla replied, "Look behind the couch first."
Sheppard did as she said and he found a wrapped gift.
"Your gift," Teyla said as she sat down on the couch where she had earlier.
"Seriously Teyla you didn’t have to get me anything," Sheppard said.
"Open it John," Teyla said as she put her feet up.
Sheppard sat down next to her and opened his gift. What he saw when he opened it was a painting, a little more then 12 inches by 12 inches, of Teyla. "You did this for me?"
"Yes with help from Major Lorne who did the actual painting," Teyla replied, "What do you think of it?"
"I can’t believe you posed for this," Sheppard said, "It’s-It’s beautiful. I love it Teyla."
Before Teyla could say anything, Sheppard leaned over and gave her sweet long tender kiss. Afterwards, they ate the cheesecake occasionally feeding each other bites. When Sheppard was done eating, he walked over to the bed and folded the blanket on it towards the end. He then motioned Teyla to lie down on the bed.
"I’ll now let my hands work there magic on your back and feet," Sheppard said.
"Thank you for this evening," Teyla said, "The food. The gift. The bath. Everything."
"Well Teyla you are most welcome," Sheppard said as he massaged her back.
Teyla turned her head just enough so she could give Sheppard a quick kiss. After he was done massaging her back, he fluffed up her pillows. Before moving on to massaging her feet, he lifted up her night shirt just enough to some skin on her belly and placed 2 kisses on it.
As Sheppard placed a hand on her belly, he said, "Goodnight you 2."
During the foot massage, he noticed that Teyla had fallen asleep with a smile on her face, so he pulled the covers over her and kissed her goodnight on the forehead before turning in for the night. In the middle of the night, Teyla woke up and when she couldn’t get back to sleep she got a craving for popcorn, so she decided to wake up Sheppard.
When he woke up, he asked, "What’s wrong Teyla?"
She told him she was fine, but she had a craving for popcorn. He asked her if she was sure she wanted popcorn at this time of night and when she was sure he got up to get her a bag of buttered popcorn before going back to sleep. That morning after Sheppard was showered and dressed he was called to the control room for an urgent mission. When he entered the Gate he was once again returned to the familiar surroundings of the infirmary.
The Infirmary:
When Sheppard woke up from his coma, he asked Beckett how long he was in a coma for, but Beckett interrupted him with an answer before Sheppard could even finish the question.
"6 hours this time," Beckett replied.
"Any update from Zelenka or McKay yet?" Sheppard asked.
"No not yet," Beckett replied as Teyla walked in to check on Sheppard.
Sheppard noticed that Teyla had walked in and asked her, "Any word from Zelenka or McKay yet?"
Teyla nodded no.
McKay’s Lab:
Zelenka and McKay were 1/4 of the way through the 500 pages left of the 1,000 when Zelenka found something interesting in the information.
"I think I found something on machine," Zelenka said.
McKay walked over to him to see what he had found.
"There is one problem with this section," Zelenka said, "It only says how to turn it off permanently and temporarily but it does say how we’ll know the machine is on."
"If we know that much, then maybe I should head back to the planet with a copy of that section and figure out how to turn it on," McKay said, "while you finish going through the rest of the information. It would save time because if we don’t find anything about how to turn it on we’d then have to go to the planet anyway."
"I will find someone else to help me then," Zelenka said.
McKay made a copy of the section he wanted before going to Weir’s office to tell her what Zelenka had and what he wanted to do. When she agreed that he could go back to the planet with Major Lorne’s team, he headed to the infirmary.
The Infirmary:
Sheppard saw McKay walk into the infirmary and said to him, "I hope you have good news."
"I do," McKay said, "Where’s Carson?"
"His office I think," Sheppard replied before McKay went towards Beckett’s office.
"Carson I have some good news," McKay said when he found Beckett there.
Beckett asked him what it was and McKay told him what he had told Weir.
"How long do you think it will take you?" Beckett asked.
"I don’t know," McKay replied, "but when I figure it out you’ll be one of the first ones to know. Oh, could you do me a favor and help Zelenka go through the rest of the information. Maybe find a third person to help. It would move things along faster if he doesn’t have to finish it himself.
Beckett told him yes and McKay let Zelenka know so he could bring the information to the infirmary. After McKay told Beckett thanks, he made his way out of the infirmary while Beckett radioed Dr. Cole.
When Sheppard saw McKay walk out of the infirmary he asked him, "What did you tell Beckett?"
"No time now," McKay replied, "I need to get to the planet."
"Darn I wanted to know what was so good about the news," Sheppard said.
"I am sure Dr. Beckett will tell you," Teyla said to Sheppard.
Beckett walked out of his office and over to Sheppard to tell him what McKay had and that it would be awhile before everything was set.
"What should I do in the mean time?" Sheppard asked Beckett.
"I would try to get some rest," Beckett replied, "even thou that may seem impossible right now."
"Rest yeah right," Sheppard said before he shut his eyes anyway and before Beckett said anymore on the subject.
The Gate Room:
Sheppard found himself in the Gate Room with Major Lorne’s team, Dex and McKay when he found Lorne saying something to McKay. I wonder what’s going to happen this time Sheppard thought.
"McKay will you stop complaining it’s just a splinter," Lorne said.
"That’s what you think," McKay said.
"Just get yourself to the infirmary Rodney," Sheppard said.
"I’ll tell Dr. Weir what happened on the planet," Lorne said, "Ronon you may what to come with me."
Ronon left with Lorne while the rest of the team headed out of the Gate Room. Sheppard headed to the gear room to get rid of his gear before headed to his and Teyla’s quarters. When he looked at his watch, he noticed that it was about an hour before dinner.
Sheppard and Teyla’s Quarters:
Sheppard walked in expecting Teyla not to be there as was true with the last coma, but this time she was sitting on the couch putting on her shoes.
"Shouldn’t you be resting," Sheppard said as he walked to the couch and sat next to her.
"I would John but I have my final doctor’s appointment in 10 minutes," Teyla said.
When Teyla had her shoes on, they left for the infirmary and as they left Sheppard said something about heading straight to the mess hall afterwards for dinner.
The Infirmary:
Dr. Beckett saw Sheppard walk in and he told them he would be with them in a minute as he went to wash his hands. When he returned he started Teyla’s check-up.
"You’ll be happy to know," Dr. Beckett said near the end of the appointment, "that it will be any day now and everything looks good.
Teyla turned her head to smile at Sheppard who smiled back while Dr. Beckett finished up the check up. After the appointment, Sheppard and Teyla left the infirmary to go to the mess hall for dinner.
Sheppard and Teyla’s Quarters:
"That was some dinner," Sheppard said as he and Teyla walked in.
"Yes it was," Teyla said with a yawn.
Sheppard could tell that she was getting tried by yawn, so he asked he, "Would you like me to get a bath ready for you? I could scrub your back, whole body if you like and I’ll throw in a foot massage while you soak. That should help you sleep tonight."
"Only if the babies don’t keep me up or I go into labor," Teyla replied, "I’ll get my night clothes ready while you get the water ready."
When Sheppard had the bath ready, she walked into the bathroom, night clothes in hand, and got ready for bath. After the bath, she thanked Sheppard for it and put on her night clothes. Once she was dressed for bed, she walked out of the bathroom to find Sheppard fluffing her pillows and the blanket folded down, so all she had to do was get into bed and pull the covers over her. Teyla got into bed, but Sheppard stopped her before she grabbed the covers and covered her up halfway. He put the a hand on her belly and gave her a long romantic kiss good night then felt a kick from one of the babies, so he lifted her shirt and placed two kisses on her belly.
"Good night and see you soon," Sheppard said, "Good night Teyla."
"Good night John," Teyla said as Sheppard pulled her shirt back over her belly and covered her up some more with the blanket.
The next day when Sheppard woke up he got out of bed making sure he didn’t wake up Teyla and went to take a shower. While he was in the process of getting dried up with a towel, he heard Teyla scream in pain so he ran, wrapped in a towel, to Teyla a quickly as he could.
"What’s wrong Teyla?" Sheppard asked.
"A contraction," Teyla replied and then Sheppard went to grab his watch.
Sheppard sat down next to Teyla and 20 minutes later she had another contraction.
"This is it John," Teyla said after the contraction, "It is time."
Sheppard helped Teyla out of bed and said, "I’ll go get dressed while you get ready to go to the infirmary."
When Sheppard was dressed, he informed Dr. Beckett that it was time and Beckett said to wait until they got under 15 minutes apart. Sheppard then told Teyla what Beckett had said while she sat down on the edge of the bed with Sheppard right by her side. About 2 and half hour to 3 hours later, the contractions were at 11 minutes apart so they headed to the infirmary.
The Infirmary:
Once they were at the infirmary, a nurse handed Teyla a gown and pointed to the empty bed that was ready for her.
"Dr. Beckett will be with you in minute," the nurse said.
Sheppard helped Teyla change into the gown and got to lie down once her next contraction was over. He looked at his watch to find that they were now at 10 minutes apart, so when Dr. Beckett walked over he told him.
"Let’s have a look here," Beckett said as he put on some gloves. Then after he had a look, "Well Teyla it looks like you’re at 4 cm."
A nurse then brought a washcloth and small container of cool water, so Sheppard could keep her forehead cool. About an hour later, the contractions changed from 10 minutes to 9 minutes apart. All Sheppard could do was wipe her forehead with the cool wet washcloth and keep quiet during a contraction, so he wouldn’t get yelled at or even kicked out of the infirmary. Another hour later, and the contractions were at 8 minutes then an hour after that 7 minutes apart, but when the hour was up they were still at 7 minutes.
Dr. Beckett came over to have another look and said, "Teyla you are now at 6 cm. If you feel the need to get up and walk around then do so. I’ll check back in a little bit."
"Do you want to try and walk around Teyla?" Sheppard asked.
"Not at the moment John," Teyla replied right before another contraction hit her.
3 hours later from when the contractions changed to 7 minutes apart they were still at 7 minutes, so Teyla told Sheppard she would like to walk around a bit. About a half an hour into the walk something happened.
"John my water just broke," Teyla said.
"Ok let’s get you back on the bed," Sheppard said as he noticed the puddle on the floor.
He helped her back to the bed and when Dr. Beckett came a half in hour later he found that she was now at 7 and half cm. Sheppard also made sure Beckett knew that her water broke during their walk. During the next 4 hours, the contractions ranged 6 minutes apart right down to the point were they were almost on top of one another.
"Doctor," Sheppard said as he held Teyla’s hand.
Beckett ran over, had a look at Teyla, and said while he put on some gloves, "You are at 10 cm, so it’s time to start pushing."
Every time Beckett said push she pushed squeezing Sheppard’s hand in the process.
"The head is out," Beckett said.
Sheppard took a quick look while still holding on to Teyla’s hand and eventually the baby was out. Beckett told them it was a boy and Sheppard got the opportunity to cut the cord. Once the baby was crying and handed over to a nurse, it was time for Teyla to get the second baby out, but Teyla was complaining about being tired when the baby’s head was out.
After Sheppard took a quick look at the second baby’s head he said to Teyla, "Teyla you’re a strong woman. If you can kick alien butt you can do this and the sooner you do this the sooner you’ll be closer to the point where you can once again kick my butt for the fun of it."
Teyla took a second to look at him and smiled before going back to pushing the second baby out. When the baby was out, Beckett told Teyla she could stop pushing then told them it was a girl. Sheppard cut the cord and once the baby was crying she was cleaned. A nurse was about to hand Sheppard his son, but he pointed to Teyla indicating that he wanted Teyla to hold him.
Sheppard said to Teyla, once he had his daughter in his arms, "I figured first one out first to be held by his beautiful mother."
Teyla looked at him smiling and then asked, "How is the hand John?"
"It will be fine, but it was worth it," Sheppard replied as he glanced back and forth at each baby before giving a Teyla a quick sweet kiss, "Aren’t we forgetting something Teyla?"
"And what might that be John?" Teyla asked.
"Names for the babies," Sheppard replied.
Teyla looked at Sheppard and said, "John Torren Emmagan Sheppard and Ashley Teyla Emmagan Sheppard. Those are the names we agreed to."
"So that would make me Big J and JT here Little J?" Sheppard asked as he held out a finger for John Torren to grab.
"It would seem so John," Teyla replied looking at John Torren and then Sheppard with a smile.
Sheppard asked Teyla if they would like switch babies, so Teyla was finally holding Ashley and Sheppard his name sake.
When Teyla was holding Ashley, Sheppard said, "I think when she grows up she’s going to look just like you."
Teyla thanked him for the comment then said with a smile, "And I have no doubt that John Torren will look like his handsome father when he grows up."
"Why thank you Teyla," Sheppard said back smiling at Teyla.
At some point, Sheppard left the infirmary to let Teyla get some rest. Then about 48 hours from when the babies were born they were ready to go home, so when Sheppard entered the infirmary this time it was to pick up Teyla and the babies.
"I hope you like what they are wearing?" Teyla asked Sheppard.
Sheppard told her that he did when he noticed the babies were wearing the outfits Sheppard had given Teyla on their 1 year anniversary.
A nurse walked over to Sheppard and Teyla with a wheelchair and said, "Dr. Beckett’s orders."
Teyla sat in the wheelchair not wanting to defy doctor’s orders. Once she had both babies in her arms, she and Sheppard made their way back to their quarters with the help of the nurse, so she could take the wheelchair back to the infirmary.
Sheppard and Teyla’s Quarters:
When they got back to their quarters and got settled, one of the babies started crying and then the other one started crying too.
"I do believe they are hungry John," Teyla said.
"Which one would you like first?" Sheppard asked as Teyla got ready to feed the twins.
"It is John Torren’s turn to be fed first today," Teyla replied.
Sheppard got John Torren and handed him to Teyla while he tried to keep Ashley quiet until it was her turn. After Ashley was fed, she fell asleep in Teyla’s arms while John Torren had fallen asleep in the arms of his father, who was sitting next to Teyla on the couch, sometime after being burped and during the time Ashley was eating. Just after dinnertime, Sheppard was called to the control room only to find out that Zelenka and a science team that went with him went missing, so he, Ronon and McKay with the help of Lorne’s team had to head to the planet to find them. He let Teyla know the mission was urgent before he headed to the gear room. Once geared up, it was on to the gate room and then through the Stargate. The next thing he would see would be the infirmary.
The Infirmary:
This time when Sheppard woke up from a coma, a nurse was standing at the side of the bed instead of Beckett. Sheppard was about to ask how long he was in a coma for, but the nurse stopped him and said she would get Beckett.
When Beckett walked over, he had the answer to the question Sheppard was going to ask. "12 hours."
"Any news from McKay or Zelenka yet?" Sheppard asked.
"McKay’s on his way back to tell us what he has," Beckett replied.
Dr. Cole walked over to Beckett to tell him that she and Zelenka had found something he would want to see.
"Excuse me one minute Colonel Sheppard," Beckett said.
Beckett and Dr. Cole walked over to Zelenka and Dr. Cole showed them what was found.
"Now that I look at this again it has got me thinking about the time my sister let me use her computer," Dr. Cole said, "She forgot to tell me that she had her screen saver set-up, so the only way you get back to the main screen was with a password."
"I think you are on to something," Zelenka said, "What if the machine is in a so-called screen saver mode and all we need is a password but there is one problem. We have not found one yet."
"Maybe Rodney will have better luck," Beckett said.
The Gate Room/Control Room:
McKay ran up the stairs to tell Weir what he found.
"What did you find Rodney?" Weir asked as she saw McKay enter the Control Room.
"I found some type of code for the machine," McKay replied, "but I don’t know what type because all the machine did was chirp which means the machine liked the code, but it was the wrong one for whatever state it’s in. Where’s Zelenka he’ll want to know?"
"In the infirmary with Carson," Weir replied, "and Dr. Cole."
The Infirmary:
McKay walked as fast as he could to the infirmary to tell Zelenka what he had.
Sheppard saw McKay walk in, but McKay walked right past him headed for Zelenka’s direction.
"I take you found something," Zelenka said.
"Yes I did," McKay said then he told Zelenka, Beckett and Dr. Cole what he told Weir he found.
When he was through, Zelenka said, "We found something too, but small piece is still missing."
McKay asked him what and Zelenka told him what he and Dr. Cole had found.
"How much information do you have left?" McKay asked.
"About 60 Pages," Zelenka replied.
"Well if we each take 12 pages," McKay said, "We’ll get through the rest in no time flat."
Dr. Beckett excused himself to inform Colonel Sheppard of everything that happened. When he was done, he once again told Sheppard to do the impossible, get some rest, before going back to help the others. Sheppard closed his eyes and again found himself in coma again.
The Gate Room:
This time during his last coma, thou he didn’t know that it was his last one, he found himself in the gate room just like the beginning of all the other comas. The other people in the room with him were Ronon, McKay and what he assumed was a group of scientists.
"I’ll tell Weir about the Zed PM we found," McKay said while walking towards the stairs carrying a case that had a ZPM.
"At least we found something this time," Ronon said before walking out of the Gate Room.
Sheppard left and made his way to the gear room then headed to his and Teyla Quarters.
Sheppard and Teyla's Quarters:
When he stepped through the door, he found Teyla in an Athosian dress checking on the twins. When she finished she looked up. "The babysitter will be her shortly you should get changed."
Sheppard asked what for and Teyla told him. "Dinner for two without the twins."
"Some time alone nice," Sheppard said as he walked over to Teyla and gave her a short sweet kiss before going to get changed.
Once Sheppard was changed and the babysitter at their quarters, they left for dinner.
The Mess Hall:
Once they had there trays and were sitting down in a mostly private area of the mess hall, Sheppard asked, "How were the twins today?"
"They were awake most of the day and fell asleep shortly before you came home," Teyla replied, "I should also mention that they were cranky and crying a lot. I asked Dr. Beckett about it and he said that they are getting teeth and that babies can start getting teeth at 5 months."
"Well maybe tonight they’ll sleep through the night," Sheppard said as he took a bite of food.
"I hope you are right," Teyla said.
They finished their dinner before talking a walk to an outside area and then they went back to their quarters to relieve the babysitter.
Sheppard and Teyla’s Quarters:
That night the twins sleep through the night but about 6 am the next day they woke up. Sheppard woke up and walked over to the baby bed that Ashley was lying in. When he picked her up, he could tell that she needed a diaper change, but before he went to change it he noticed that Teyla had gotten up and was now holding J.T.
Sheppard looked at Teyla and asked, "Diaper change too?"
Teyla nodded yes and they went to change some diapers. Afterwards he asked which one’s turn it was to be fed first. and when Teyla said Ashley he handed her Ashley. Once the babies has been fed, they went back to crying.
"What’s the matter Ashley?" Sheppard asked even thou he knew she couldn’t answer him, "I changed your diaper, your mother fed you and I burped you."
Teyla said to Sheppard after trying to calm J.T. down, "They are teething John."
Sheppard looked inside Ashley’s mouth to see a tooth coming, "Do we have something cold for them to chew on."
Teyla got up from the couch where she was sitting with J.T. to get something and then she walked over to Sheppard. "I believe your people call them teething rings."
Teyla handed one to Sheppard and he gave it to Ashley while Teyla gave J.T. the one she was still holding.
"That should keep them quiet for a while," Sheppard said. Then he looked down at Ashley and ticked her. "Isn’t that right?
Teyla smiled as Ashley giggled a little before going back to her teething ring.
"Now Ashley don’t hurt your mother with that tooth the next time she feeds you," Sheppard said and then he looked at J.T., "The same goes for you too."
Teyla gave Sheppard a big smile for what he just said and laughed a little. Teyla handed J.T. to him and told him she would shower and get dressed so they could have breakfast. Once Teyla was done and Sheppard had his chance to shower, they put the twins in snugglers and headed out the door for breakfast.
That afternoon Teyla fed Ashley and during the feeding Teyla said, "Ouch!"
Sheppard had walked in at the same time Teyla spoke with lunch trays. Once Ashley had finished eating and was handed to Sheppard, he had a talk with her.
As Sheppard burped Ashley, he said to her, "What did I tell you about hurting your mother with that tooth."
When Teyla was feeding J.T., she had another need to say ouch. This time Sheppard walked over to her and asked if she was alright.
"It seems that they are in a biting mood today," Teyla replied.
Sheppard looked down at J.T. then Ashley before he spoke. "You two better watch with those teeth you’re getting. I don’t want to hear that you have been constantly biting your mother with them."
Teyla turned to look at Sheppard and smiled at him before she asked, "Shall we put them down for a nap and eat lunch?"
Sheppard nodded yes and they did just that.
That night after Teyla and Sheppard went to bed, they were awakened by the sound of the twins crying. Sheppard got up and went to see what was wrong.
He picked up Ashley and said, "I know you’re not hungry because your mother fed you and bathed you before you went to bed and I changed your diaper."
"Did you check her mouth?" Teyla asked.
Sheppard then looked in Ashley’s mouth and found a new tooth coming in. As he tried to calm her down, J.T. started crying, so he walked a little closer to J.T. and stuck a finger in his mouth only to come to the same conclusion that he did with Ashley. However there was a problem because Teyla had told him over dinner that they had used the last of the teething rings earlier, so they were out of luck until the rings were all cleaned. Teyla was about to get up and pick up J.T., but she was stopped when Sheppard carefully pick up J.T. and gave him to Teyla.
"What are we going to do now?" Sheppard asked Teyla, "We just can’t let them cry all night."
Teyla told him she agreed and then Sheppard got an idea.
"What about something else cold like a carrot or a piece of fruit? I could go down to the mess hall kitchen and see what they have?" Sheppard asked.
Teyla nodded yes and said it was a good idea. He then told her he and Ashley would be right back.
The Mess Hall Kitchen:
As Sheppard made his way to the mess hall, he hoped the walk would quiet Ashley but it failed. "Ok let’s see what the mess hall has to make your gums feel better."
Sheppard talked to the cook in the mess hall kitchen and told him about his situation. The cook told him to wait one moment and when he returned he had some cold carrot sticks in a bag. Sheppard told him thanks and made his way out of the mess hall, but not before picking up a couple of bananas and a package of grapes for himself and Teyla. On the way back to their quarters, he managed to open the bag of carrot sticks and get out one for Ashley without dropping any of the other food.
"There this should help your gums feel better," Sheppard said as Ashley took the carrot stick and started chewing on it, "Now let’s go see if it will help your brother."
Sheppard and Teyla’s Quarters:
When Sheppard came through the door he said, "I have came back with carrot sticks and for us some bananas and grapes."
He put the fruit the down and then handed the bag of carrot sticks to Teyla. "See Ashley’s happy and no longer crying."
"That is certainly good news," Teyla said when she handed J.T. a carrot stick and noticed Sheppard sitting down on the bed.
He then started playing with Ashley by tickling her and lifting her shirt to blow on her belly which caused her to giggle. When Ashley returned her attention back to the carrot, Sheppard reached a hand over to J.T., so he could tickle him. J.T. giggled for a little bit before going back to his carrot. A little bit later J.T. finished his carrot stick, yawned and fell asleep in his mother’s arms, so she got up off the bed to put him to bed. When she turned to head back towards the bed, she noticed Sheppard asleep with Ashley. She hated to break the two of them up, but Ashley needed to sleep in her own bed, so she put Ashley to bed making sure she didn’t wake him up. The next thing that would wake him up would someone calling him to the control room. When he found out what it was all about, he returned to get dress for a mission. Once he was dressed, he left Teyla note so he wouldn’t have to wake her. He then left to get geared up before heading through the Gate.
The Alien Planet:
This time when Sheppard woke up he found himself somewhere other then the infirmary.
"Oh good you’re awake Colonel," Beckett said, "You were out for 7 hours and we have everything we need to stop your comas."
"That’s good to know," Sheppard said, "so I guess that’s why I’m not in the infirmary then."
"That’s correct," Beckett said, "you’re on the alien planet where the machine is."
Sheppard scanned the room to see who else was in it and found the rest of his team as well as a few other people.
"Ronon and Teyla are here to help keep you awake for 24 hours," Beckett said.
"Why do I need to stay awake for 24 hours?" Sheppard asked.
Before Beckett could answer McKay walked over with a container.
"What’s in the container?" Sheppard asked.
McKay opened it and showed Sheppard before handing the container to Beckett then going back to the machine. When Beckett got the container, he took out one of the small circular devices that where similar in size to the Tok’ra memory device that when behind the ear and placed it on one of Sheppard’s temples. He took out the other one placed on it on Sheppard’s other temple.
"I don’t know all the details," Beckett said replying to Sheppard’s earlier question, "but the machine requires it in order to make sure the comas have stopped. Any other questions before we get started here?"
Sheppard nodded no and Beckett told McKay he could get the machine out of its screen saver type mode.
"Now whatever you do for the next 24 hours," Beckett said, "don’t fall asleep. You may walk around, but stay in this room."
McKay informed them the machine was active and Sheppard got up and started to walk around.
"You should know that we have brought a bag of goodies to help you stay awake," Beckett said as he set the bag on the chair.
Sheppard walked over to the chair and looked through the bag noticing everything from bantos rods to golf magazines but after a while he found himself getting bored. Usually he didn’t find himself getting bored, but this time was different.
"So nobody though to put my War and Peace novel in the bag," Sheppard said.
"Perhaps we should spar then?" Teyla asked.
Sheppard walked over to the bag and got the bantos rods. He then handed a pair to Teyla as he looked for an open spot in the room to spar with her. Once he found the spot they began to spar.
After about 10 minutes of sparring, Teyla said, "I can see you have been practicing."
"A little," Sheppard said, "but there’s no way I’ll ever be as good as you."
A few more minutes of sparring and Sheppard found himself on the floor. The he heard someone make some remark about him being on the floor.
"Maybe I happen to like getting my butt kicked," Sheppard said as he smiled at Teyla before getting up off the floor.
Sometime later that day Sheppard decided to teach Ronon and Teyla how to play UNO and it seemed like Ronon was getting the hang of the game.
"Uno," Ronon said.
Beckett laid down a skip card to skip Teyla and Sheppard put down a wild card to change the color to yellow but when it got back to Ronon he put down his final card.
"I don’t believe it," Sheppard said, "a draw four wild card."
Sheppard then picked up the cards, shuffled them and dealt them. The group of four played one more hand.
Sheppard, Beckett and Teyla got a shocked expression on their faces some ways into the game after what Ronon said. "Uno."
After Ronon laid his last card down when it go back to him, Sheppard said, "For someone who just learned how to play UNO you’re pretty good especially if you won just about every hand we played."
"Did you have a similar game on Sateda?" Beckett asked.
Ronon responded to Beckett and Sheppard put away the UNO cards as he was getting bored with the game.
"What now?" Sheppard asked.
When Beckett was done listening to Ronon, he asked, "Fancy a game of backgammon?"
"I have to warn you I’m not that good at the game and besides that I don’t know much about the game," Sheppard replied as he got out the game so Beckett could set it up.
"My mom showed me how to play the game," Beckett said as he set up the game, "We’d play the occasional game and there was this one time I swear my mother let me win, but she wouldn’t tell me whether she did or not."
"Which color am I?" Sheppard asked.
Beckett asked him what color he wanted and Sheppard told him white. Beckett then gave him a basic explanation of the game before they began to play the game. Beckett found himself on the bar once and Sheppard got on the bar at least a half a dozen times which cost him the game.
"You my friend have been gammoned," Beckett said.
"Gammoned. How?" Sheppard asked, "More importantly what does that mean?"
Beckett then told him what the word meant in the game of backgammon.
Others things he did to keep himself awake. included 3 games of chess with McKay where McKay complained that he lost two of the three and Sheppard had to tell him to quit complaining. He tried to show Teyla how to play Sudoku, but even after he showed her she still didn’t quite understand the game so he told her he would give her another lesson if she wanted it. When got back to Beckett’s other turn, Sheppard got out the all-in-one board game set and they played tic-tac-toe where Beckett won a game and Sheppard another otherwise the rest were just a bunch of ties. Sheppard got bored with tic-tac-toe so he put it away. When he had put it back in the bag, he noticed a deck of cards and some poker chips.
"Poker anyone?" Sheppard asked.
"What is this poker?" Teyla asked.
"Well let me show you," Sheppard replied as he got out the cards and the poker chips.
Teyla walked over to Sheppard and he started explaining the game by showing her combos and telling her which combos beat what like a 3 of kind beats a pair. Once Teyla got a good grasp of the game, they began to play with Ronon and Beckett joining so there would be four players. During the game, somewhere around the tenth hand, Teyla had gotten a really good hand. At least, she thought she had, so she laid her cards down waiting to see what would happen.
"I’m out," Beckett said as he put his cards down.
Ronon laid his cards down signaling that he was out as well. Sheppard did the same as he had nothing that beat Teyla’s full house.
"Does this mean I won?" Teyla asked.
"Yes," Sheppard replied smiling, "You won the hand."
Beckett was about ready to grab the cards so he could shuffle and deal them even thou he didn’t have many chips left, but McKay came over to tell him something.
"Good thing you weren’t playing Rodney or you would have complained about not winning," Sheppard said.
McKay ignored Sheppard comment and walked back to the machine.
"Looks like there are just a few minutes left. You might want to get on the gurney," Beckett said as he got up.
Sheppard got up as well and walked over to the gurney.
"I’ll wager a guess you’ll want to sleep on the way back to Atlantis," Beckett said.
"What about the machine?" Sheppard asked.
"I’ll make sure it stays off," McKay said, "like a computer when you shut it off."
"Good,’ Sheppard said as he sat on the gurney, "Now what did I hear about sleep?"
Beckett told him he had one more minute, and when the minute was up McKay turned off the machine and made sure it was off. Beckett then took off the small circular devices and put them back into the container. At that point, Sheppard laid down and let sleep take over. One day when he felt the time was right, he would tell Teyla what happened in the comas.
Teyla’s Quarters (4 years into the future):
Sheppard was standing in Teyla’s quarters holding a picnic basket when he saw Torren.
"Torren come here I want to show you something," Sheppard said as he set the picnic basket down and knelt down, so he would be at Torren’s level.
Torren walked over to him and Sheppard asked, "Can you keep a secret for a few hours?"
Torren nodded yes and then Sheppard took something out of his jacket pocket and opened it up.
"I’m going to ask you mother to marry me," Sheppard said, "What do you say to that?"
Torren nodded yes and Sheppard said, "You like the idea don’t you."
Torren nodded yes then Sheppard quickly closed the box and put it back into his pocket when he heard Teyla coming. Sheppard did the shush gesture at Torren and he did it back at Sheppard.
"Anything I should know about?" Teyla asked.
"Nope," Sheppard replied smiling innocently, "It’s something between Torren and I for now. Anyway we should get going."
Teyla told the babysitter they were leaving and then told Torren to behave.
As Sheppard and Teyla were leaving, he whispered something in Teyla’s ear to which Teyla replied by smiling.
Some Atlantis Pier:
"Thank you for the dinner," Teyla said, "It was good."
"I’m glad you liked the fried chicken and stuff, " Sheppard said, "I do have something for you, but first do remember the comas I had about 4 years ago?"
Teyla told him yes.
"Well I would like to tell you a little bit about what happened in the comas," Sheppard said and then he started telling her about them.
He told her just enough about the comas and then moved on to the two gifts he had for her. He reached into one of his jacket pockets, pulled out the first gift and handed it to Teyla. When she got the gift she opened it.
"I hope you like it, " Sheppard said before telling her the locket was like the one in the comas.
Teyla told him she loved it and he told her some more about the locket. That and about the pictures he had put in there. Once Teyla had a good look at it, he helped her put it on.
‘One gift down on to go,’ Sheppard thought, ‘Here goes nothing.’
He reached into his other jacket pocket and pulled out the other gift he had for her. Just before he handed it to her, he prepared to get down on one knee.
"Teyla will you marry me?" Sheppard asked after she had the gift and he was down on one knee.
When Teyla saw the ring, she told him her answer. "Yes."
He reached over to her and gave her a quick kiss. Before he put the ring on her finger, he showed her the inscription.
As he put the ring on her finger, he said, "That’s because I’ll be forever loving you."
This time it was Teyla who gave him a kiss. One that was a little longer then the one he gave her.
Teyla’s Quarters:
When they get back to Teyla’s quarters, they find Torren awake. Teyla relieved the babysitter and thanked her before walking over to Torren to ask him what he was doing up.
"What are you doing up?" Teyla asked.
Instead of answering his mother’s question, Torren asked, "Mommy marry John?"
Teyla told Torren yes and wondering why he’d be asking about that.
"Mommy sure?" Torren asked.
"Yes I am sure," Teyla replied and the she turned to Sheppard, "This must be what you and Torren were talking about.’"
Before Sheppard could say anything, Torren had walked over to him and said, "Kiss mommy."
Sheppard put the basket down and picked up Torren with the intention of handing him to Teyla, but he once again said, "Kiss mommy."
"I guess he wants me to kiss you," Sheppard said as he walked over to Teyla and gave her a quick sweet kiss to satisfy Torren.
"Time for you to sleep Torren," Teyla said.
Sheppard handed Torren to Teyla and then sat in Teyla’s chair when she said she would just be a moment.
A couple of hours later, Sheppard was about to tell Teyla some more about the comas when Torren walked out of his room.
"You should be a sleep," Teyla said to her son.
Torren told his mother he had a bad dream and that he thought he saw monsters in his room
"Monsters you say," Sheppard said, "You sensing anything Teyla?"
Teyla told him no and was about to get up off Sheppard’s lap to put Torren to bed, but he told his mother he wanted Sheppard to do it instead.
"I'll gladly do it. Besides I could use the practice. After all, I’m going to be his step-father," Sheppard said as he waited for Teyla to get up.
When Teyla got up, he walked over to Torren and picked him up. Once inside Torren’s room, he checked around for monsters.
"No monsters Torren," Sheppard said, "Now let’s if we can get you back to sleep. Would you like me to tell you a story?"
Torren said yes and Sheppard put him back to bed.
After Sheppard left with Torren, Teyla sat back down in the chair and waited for Sheppard to return, but after about 10 minutes she got up and walked into Torren’s room. The sight she saw when she entered her son’s room put a smile to her face. Sheppard had fallen asleep with Torren. She went and got a blanket to cover up Sheppard with before getting ready for bed for the night.
The End of Part One.
