It had been a month since they had tricked the Goa'uld and SG-1 wished they could have seen the look on the Goa'uld’s faces.
The Briefing Room:
"The symbols SG-6 photographed on this planet may have a connection to the planet we visited a few weeks ago," Daniel said.
"According to SG-6 the people who call themselves the Zara, are friendly," Teal’c said.
“Prepare to leave after lunch," Hammond said, "And see if you can get some help from one of the Zara with the symbols."
"How long do think this mission will take?" O’Neill asked.
“About a few days," Hammond said, "Anything else?"
SG-1 nodded no and Hammond said, "Dismissed."
After O'Neill got up and exited the briefing room he thought he had seen 9-year old boy. Lt. Colonel Carter came up to him and asked, "Colonel are you alright?"
O'Neill didn't hear what Carter said and instead followed the 9-year old boy he had seen not knowing Carter decided to followed him. After about 10 minutes the boy disappeared before he did O'Neill got a good look at his face. Then O'Neill felt a tap on his shoulder and turned around.
A Hallway:
"Gee do you have to scare me like that Carter," O’Neill said.
"Sorry Sir," Carter said, "Are you alright?"
"I really don't know," O’Neill said.
"Maybe you should go see Dr. Frasier," Carter said.
"No," O’Neill said.
"What were you following?" Carter asked.
"I will tell you as long as you do laugh," O’Neill said.
"Ok, I promise," Carter said.
"I think I have been seeing a ghost," O’Neill said.
Carter started to laugh a little and then said, "Sorry, Sir."
"I am serious," O’Neill said, "But that's not all."
"There's more?" Carter asked.
"Yes," O’Neill said, "I could have sworn he looked like my late son Charlie."
"Has Charlie been on your mind lately?" Carter asked.
"Yeah, some," O’Neill said, "As well as what your father said to me that one time."
"Oh that," Carter said, "You know if you would like to talk, about your son, I'm here for you as while as Daniel and Teal'c."
"Thanks," O’Neill said, "Now if you will excuse me I need to go to my locker to get my box of Fruit Loops. I haven't had my fix today."
"Oh I see," Carter said, "A colonel who hasn't his Fruit Loops yet is not a happy camper until he has them."
"You bet," O’Neill said, "I'll see you at the gate if I don't see you before then."
O'Neill then left to get his Fruit Loops fix.
In the Gate Room/Control Room (after lunch):
Just as the gate was dialing up to the Zara planet someone from the control room said, "Chevron 6 will not engage."
Lt. Colonel Carter then left the gate room and headed right to the control room.
Once there she said, "I will run a diagnosis."
"What seems to be the problem Colonel Carter," Hammond said.
"Chevron 6 won't engage," Carter said, "According to the diagnosis there seems to be nothing wrong with the gate."
"Any suggestions?" asked Hammond.
"I think I know what may be wrong," Carter said.
Hammond then asked what.
"Someone dialed the code wrong," Carter said, "I recommend we dial correctly this time sergeant."
"Next time sergeant watch what you are doing," Hammond said.
"Yes, General," said the sergeant.
Carter left the control room and headed back to the gate room.
"So what was the problem?" O’Neill asked.
"Someone dialed the code wrong," Carter said, "But it should be fixed now."
The gate whooshed active and the four members of SG-1 walked up to it and entered it.
Colonel O'Neill didn't know that the ghost that he had been seeing had entered as well. The Ghost had yet to say anything to O'Neill.
The Zara Planet:
The four members of SG-1 exited the gate and walked down the few steps.
Then someone said, "You must be SG-1."
"Yes," O’Neill said, "And you are?"
“Taran and the person standing next to me is Garin. You must be here for some help on some symbols. Am I correct?"
"Yes you are," Daniel said.
"Then follow us," Garin said.
SG-1 followed Garin and Taran.
"Where are we heading?" Teal’c asked.
"To the town hall," Garin said.
"That is where we have written records, on the symbols, kept," Taran said.
"We will have to go through a set of caves after we cross the bridge coming up," Garin said.
They crossed the bridge and then entered the caves.
The Caves:
"Colonel if it is alright with you I would like to look around these caves," Carter said.
"Ok," O’Neill said, "Teal'c you go with Daniel and will stay with Colonel Carter because no one should look at something unknown alone. There is safety in numbers."
"O'Neill is right," Teal’c said.
"Keep updating me regularly Daniel," O’Neill said.
"Understood Jack," Daniel said.
After Teal'c and Daniel left with the two Zara guides O'Neill saw the ghost again. This time he said something to the ghost.
"What is it you want?" O’Neill asked, "And who are you?"
"I am Charlie your son," Charlie the ghost said, "And only you can see me. What is it you want more then anything in the world?"
"I don't know," O’Neill said.
"What does your heart tell you?" Charlie the ghost asked.
O'Neill heard snapping fingers and saw the ghost of his son disappear.
"Colonel," Carter said.
"I saw the ghost of Charlie again. It seems like he has a mission or he would not be here," O’Neill said.
"Are you sure you don't need to see Dr. Frasier," Carter said as they started walking through the caves.
"I'm sure," O’Neill said.
"Ok then," Carter said, "What did the ghost want?"
"He asked me 'What is it you want more then anything in the world?' I said 'I don't know' then he asked 'What does your heart tell you?'" O’Neill said.
"Pretty big questions," Carter said.
"Look at the walls of this section of the caves," O’Neill said.
"They look like some kind of gems or crystals but I know this it has something to do with astrophysics," Carter said.
"Oh here go again about to speak in what I call a foreign tongue because I don't know anything about it," O’Neill said.
"Maybe I should let you read one of my books on the subject. Then maybe you would understand it," Carter said.
"I don't think so," O’Neill said, "And besides I like to spend my downtime sleeping, eating or fishing."
"So you spend your free time eating, breathing and sleeping fishing," Carter said.
"You bet," O’Neill said, "And don't forget Fruit Loops and beer too."
They kept walking down the cave until they came to fork in the road.
"Which way?" O’Neill asked.
"The left one," Carter said.
O’Neill said ok as they headed down the cave.
The Town Hall:
"These are the books that will help," Taran said as he was pointing to the shelves.
"These are the symbols that were on the buildings," Daniel said as he got out the folder with pictures in it from his backpack.
"Hmm," said Garin.
Daniel then asked what.
"You have stumbled across something we thought we would have never found," said Garin.
"We have spent years looking for this with the help of our sky ships," Taran said.
"To me, anyway, you don't seem like a people that would have sky ships," Daniel said.
"We stopped months ago using them because we had lost hope of finding what it is in these pictures," Taran said.
“If we got a map that shows where this planet is and where that one is you think you could tell us how far it is?" Teal’c asked.
Garin nodded yes.
"Now about deciphering these symbols," Daniel said.
Back in the Caves:
While Carter was looking at something O'Neill saw the ghost of his son again.
"My mission here is to help you realize what your heart wants and needs more then anything in the world," Charlie said.
"Well can you tell me what that is?" O’Neill asked.
"No," Charlie said, "That is something you have to figure out."
"But can you help me anyway," O’Neill said.
"Yes or I would not be here," Charlie said.
"Ok, so help away," O’Neill said.
"What I am about to show you will span over two years. The first one will be one month from now, the next one will be 3 months later from the previous one, then 5 months later from that, 5 more months later and the last one a year from the previous one," Charlie said.
"Ok, is there anything I need to do?" O’Neill asked.
"You may want to sit down," Charlie said.
O'Neill found a big stone and sat down on it then asked, "Now what?"
"Give me your hand," Charlie said.
O'Neill took Charlie's hand and the next thing he knew was he was in his house.
Back in the Caves:
Carter turned around to say something to the colonel but it was like he was phased out. She try to snap him out of it but it didn't work this time.
The Future; O'Neill's house (one month):
Jack heard the doorbell ring so he figured he had to play out these visions. Then the doorbell rang again. O'Neill walked to the door, opened it and to his surprise it was Carter.
"Jack did you forget our date?" Carter asked.
Date O’Neill thought to himself and then he said, "Come in."
When Carter came in she handed O’Neill a movie and then headed straight for his kitchen with the food from KFC to get plates and such. O’Neill headed to his computer room for a minute.
"You better get back out there," Charlie said.
"When will this vision end?" asked Jack.
"The vision will end when you have seen it. Not the whole thing just the bits and parts that are broken down into 5 visions," Charlie said.
"Ah what you said earlier," said Jack.
"Now get out there," Charlie said.
"Alright but I still don't see what the purpose of this is," said Jack and then he left his computer room.
Back in the Town Hall (present):
"What do we have so far," Taran said.
"Well from what I can tell these symbols are talking about moon ships," Daniel said.
"Moon ships I have not heard of those since I was a child," Garin said.
"Could there be more then one planet Zaras live on?" Teal’c asked.
"Yes we span about 4 planets and at one time some of the moons. The one that these symbols were found on is one that at one time was filled with Zara called Atoofroza which in our language, although we use a language like your more often, means Icy Sun," Taran said.
"It also says that the sun is now icy and will remain that way for 2 days," Daniel said.
"Ah, something that happens ones every ten years. The sun becomes icy and for two days it gets the coldest and the darkest it will ever get," Garin said, "Atoofroza got that name because it is the closest to the sun of this system of planets."
"Interesting," Teal’c said, "All this time and you never thought to look there?"
Taran nodded no.
At O'Neill's House (the future vision):
O’Neill sat down on his couch and looked at the box in his hand to see what the movie was Carter handed him. It was a John Candy movie called "Cool Runnings". Then Carter came back into the room.
“Here you go,” Carter said as she handed O’Neill a plate with fried chicken, mashed potatoes, coslaw and a biscuit on it.
“Thanks,” O’Neill said.
“I thought you would have had the movie plugged in by now,” Carter said.
“I will do it right now,” O’Neill said as he put his plate on the end table and walked over to his VCR, “Ok now where did I put my universal remote. Ah now I know what I did with it.”
O’Neill went to his computer room and found it on the couch. When he looked up he saw Daniel and Teal’c walking up his walk way so he walked back to his family room, set the remote down on the couch, headed towards the door and went outside.
“What are you two doing here?” O’Neill asked.
“While we wanted to see if you wanted to go to a hockey game,” Daniel said.
“I’m kinda busy right now,” O’Neill said.
“Oh I forgot your date with Sam is tonight,” Daniel said, “Something made me think it was tomorrow.”
“Nope it’s today,” O’Neill said.
“Well then see you tomorrow,” Daniel said.
“See you,” O’Neill said then he went back into the house.
“What was that all about,” Carter asked.
“Daniel and Teal’c forgot our date was tonight and thought it was tomorrow,” O’Neill said.
“I tried your remote it doesn’t work,” Carter said.
“Now I know why I found it where I did. I was going to put new batteries in. I will go get some right now,” O’Neill said.
He went into the kitchen and opened his junk drawer then moved things around until he found the double A batteries. When he did, he went back into the family room. O’Neill put the batteries in the remote and started the movie then ate his dinner. When they were done eating, O’Neill put the dirty dishes in the sink and came back in the family room. After he sat down Carter moved closer to him and put her head on his shoulder. O’Neill figured he should just continue to play along so he put an arm around her and got comfy, as did Carter. Before the end of the movie Carter had fallen so he just let her sleep. He grabbed the blanket draped over the back of the couch and covered her up. Sometime later he had fallen asleep himself. The next thing he knew it was morning. When O’Neill woke up he watched Carter sleep until she woke up.
“What happened?” Carter asked with a yawn.
“You fell asleep before the movie ended,” O’Neill said.
“You could have woken me up,” Carter said.
“You were sleeping so peacefully. I didn’t have the heart to wake you,” O’Neill said.
“That was sweet of you,” Carter said with a smile, “I’m glad were on downtime then we can stay this way a little longer.”
All O’Neill could do is smile at her and kiss on the forehead. Then he found himself somewhere else.
Back in the Caves:
Everything Carter did to try to get the colonel back to reality didn’t work so she decided to wait maybe he would come back to reality on his own.
The Town Hall:
“This section of symbols talks more about moon ships,” Daniel said.
“We must inform out leaders of this Taran,” Garin said.
“If you will excuse us for a moment,” Taran said.
“Sure,” Daniel said.
Carter’s Front Door (The Future;3 months later from last vision):
O’Neill had not realized he rang the doorbell until the door opened.
“Come in,” Carter said, “Just give me a minute to finish getting ready.”
A few minutes later she came back in a simple but elegant short sleeved summer dress and the locket O’Neill had given her around her neck.
“Jack we can go now,” Carter said, “We don’t want to be late for our engagement party at General Hammond’s.”
Engagement thought O’Neill then he thought this must be the next vision.
Carter snapped her fingers and O’Neill asked, “What?”
“Are you alright?” Carter asked.
“I’m fine. I was just thinking,” O’Neill said.
“About what?” Carter asked.
“We better get going we don’t want to be late,” O’Neill said.
“You still haven’t answered my question, Carter said, “But you are right. After all we are the guests of honor at the party.”
They left and got in O’Neill’s truck to go to the party.
In O’Neill’s Truck (The Future):
“You can answer my question now Jack,” Carter said.
“What was the question?” O’Neill asked, “I forgot.”
“Nevermind,” Carter said.
Once at General Hammond’s house O’Neill parked the truck, grabbed the keys, and went around to help Carter out then he locked the doors. Hammond greeted them at the door and told them that there were more guests to arrive.
Hammond’s House:
“Cookie,” Hammond said, “My granddaughters helped make. They’re chocolate chip.”
O’Neill took one and tasted it, as did Carter.
”I will have to admit these cookies are good,” O’Neill said.
“I will be sure and tell them,” Hammond said, “If you will excuse me I have to get the door.”
“Sure,” Carter said.
Daniel walked up to Carter and O’Neill and asked, “Did either of you teach Teal’c how to cheat at cards?”
O’Neill nodded no.
“Neither did I,” Carter said, “Why?”
“He beat me at 3 games of UNO,” Daniel said.
“How many games did you play?” O’Neill asked.
“Three,” Daniel said.
“Well let me try,” O’Neill said.
“I have a better idea,” Carter said, “Let’s all play him.”
“The three of us against him,” Daniel said.
“Yeah unless you have a better idea?” Carter asked.
”Nope,” Daniel said.
“What are we waiting for let’s play.” O’Neill said.
The three of them walked over to where Teal’c was seated and Daniel grabbed the cards. Once they were shuffled he dealt them out. Some ways into the game when it was O’Neill’s turn he said, “Draw four green.”
Daniel picked up four cards and said, “Teal’c your turn.”
“Uno,” Teal’c said as he put a card down.
“Not again,” Daniel said.
“Daniel your turn,” Carter said as she played a green skip.
“I think I’ll skip you Teal,” Daniel said as he played a yellow skip.
Carter played a yellow card and said, “Uno”
O’Neill then played a yellow card. When it was Daniel’s turn he played a wild draw four card and said, “Teal’c my friend draw four cards and it’s red.”
Carter played her last card after Teal’c picked up four cards and declared herself the winner.
“Dinner will be in an one hour,” Hammond said, “If anyone feels like dancing I’ve started played music in the backyard.
“Come on Jack lets dance,” Carter said.
“Ah a victory dance to celebrate your winning UNO,” O’Neill said as he put the UNO cards he had in his hand down.
O’Neill and Carter left and headed outside to dance. Daniel then put his cards down and said, “Teal’c if you will excuse me I’m going to see if Janet wants to dance.”
After dinner everyone gathered in the back yard to watch the 4th of July fireworks.
“There will be a surprise for you two in the fireworks,” Janet Frasier said.
All during the fireworks Carter and O’Neill held each other close. At the end of the fireworks a red, white and blue heart was formed.
When the party was over O’Neill and Carter left.
Sometime while O’Neill was driving Carter put her head on his shoulder and fell asleep. When they reached Carter’s house O’Neill parked the car.
“Carter wake up,” O’Neill said.
“Why?” Carter asked half-asleep.
“Because your home,” O’Neill said, “Come on you can go inside and sleep.”
“Ok,” Carter said.
O’Neill got out and helped Carter out. She got her key out, he walked her to the door and she unlocked the door.
“Night Carter,” O’Neill said.
“Night Jack,” Carter said.
They hugged and kissed goodnight then Carter went inside. Then O’Neill found himself somewhere else.
O’Neill and Carter’s house the future (5 months from last one):
O’Neill didn’t recognize this house so he figured that he and Carter had brought a house to call their own. He then looked at the clock and found it to be 9:[/b]00 am so he figured he would have a bowl of Fruit Loops. When he started looking for them Carter walked in.
“It’s been what three weeks since we moved in here and you still can’t remember where your box of Fruit Loops are,” Carter said.
“Nope,” O’Neill said smiling.
“What are you smiling about?” Carter asked, “Or for that matter what?”
“You,” O’Neill said.
“Well I did just get out of the shower,” Carter said.
“That’s why it smells so good in here,” O’Neill said.
“Here,” Carter said after she opened the cupboard where the box of Fruit Loops was.
“Thanks,” O’Neill said.
“Don’t forget we have to the store today,” Carter said.
“Darn. I thought we could stay home and cuddle up on the couch together while there’s a fire in the fireplace and we are drinking hot chocolate,” O’Neill said.
“Tempting but no,” Carter said.
“Why?” O’Neill asked.
“Do want to eat around here?” Carter asked.
“Yes,” O’Neill said, “Then how about tonight?”
“That’s fine,” Carter said as she walked to the hall closet.
“Where are you going?” O’Neill asked as he walked into the hallway and saw Carter putting on her hat, jacket, gloves, boots and scarf.
“I’m going to shovel the snow in the driveway,” Carter said, “Besides if I don’t we won’t be going to the store.”
“Ok, but at least let me help you,” O’Neill said.
“Ok but you have to get dress first,” Carter said.
“Then I will go upstairs and get dress,” O’Neill said.
“If I recall you said what you want to where was hanging up in the basement near the washer and dryer,” Carter said, “While you are doing that I will wait in the family room.”
“Ok,” O’Neill said as he kissed Carter.
O’Neill found the door to the basement with help of the ghost of Charlie. About ten minutes later he entered the family room all ready to help Carter shovel the driveway.
“Ok I’m ready,” O’Neill said but Carter did not respond so he walked over to her and tapped her on the shoulder.
“What?” Carter asked.
“We can shovel the driveway now,” O’Neill said, “What are you reading?”
“Something you wouldn’t understand Jack,” Carter said.
“Try me,” O’Neill said.
Carter read a little of the book O’Neill said, “You’re right Carter. I don’t.”
Carter bookmarked the page and they headed to the garage to get shovels. While they were shoveling O’Neill made a snowball and threw it at Carter.
“Hey,” Carter said as she put her shovel down, “You’ll pay for that Jack.”
She made a snowball and threw it O’Neill. Then he made another one and threw at her. Then in all out snowball fight started.
“If we going to get to the store,” Carter said, “We are going to have finish shoveling the driveway but in order for that to happen we have to stop this snowball fight.”
“Ok but lets each throw one more,” O’Neill said.
“Ok,” Carter said.
They threw one more snowball at each other, finished shoveling the driveway and headed to the store.
That night O’Neill got a fire going in the family room fireplace.
“The fire is ready Carter,” O’Neill said.
“Well so is the hot chocolate,” Carter said as she walked into the family room with the mugs.
“I’ll drink mine in a minute,” O’Neill said.
“Ok,” Carter said, “Why are there blankets and pillows on the floor near the fireplace?”
“I thought we could camp out down here near the warm fire curled up in each other arms,” O’Neill said.
“Well in that case let me go put some night clothes on,” Carter said, "Since you seem to have yours on already.”
“Ok,” O’Neill said grinning as he sipped his hot chocolate and kept an eye on the fire and Carter.
Moment’s later Carter returned in her winter nightclothes. She drank her hot chocolate, put her mug in the sink next to O’Neill’s mug and then came back into the family room. She sat down next to O’Neill and he put his arms around her. Sometime later the fire had pretty much died down and Carter had fallen asleep with her head on his chest. Once the fire had completely died down O’Neill closed his eyes and when to sleep but not before kissing Carter on the top of her head. The next thing he knew was he was somewhere else.
Back in the Town Hall (The Present):
“We have informed our leaders about this,” Garin said.
“What did they say?” Teal’c said.
“That in a few days we can use the sky ships to travel Atoofroza,” Taran said.
“In the meantime, I think we should continue figuring out some more of these symbols,” Garin said.
“Agreed,” Teal’c and Daniel said.
The OB Doctor’s Office (The Future;5 Months from last vision):
“Jack,” Carter said, “Look doesn’t the baby look cute.”
“It looks like you are having twins,” the doctor said.
“Jack did you hear that,” Carter said “Jack.”
Carter snapped her fingers and O’Neill asked, “What?”
“The doctor said we are having twins,“ Carter said.
O’Neill thought this must be the next vision because he and Carter were expecting twins so to play along again he smiled at Carter and looked at the monitor.
“Let me get a picture of this,” the doctor said.
Carter then said ok.
At the end of the appointment the doctor handed Carter the sonogram and scheduled her next appointment.
“Where to next?” O’Neill asked.
“Have you forgotten we have to go to the base to see my father,” Carter said.
“I guess I did,” O’Neill said.
At the Base (5 months; The future):
Carter and O’Neill walked to the gate room and waited for Jacob Carter. A few minutes later the Stargate was active and the Iris opened. Then Jacob Carter stepped out and Carter walked up to him.
“Hi Sam,” Jacob said.
“Hi Dad,” Carter said.
“So anything happen the last time I saw you?” asked Jacob as they walked down the ramp.
“Jack and I found out we are having twins,” Carter said.
“Well that’s great news,” Jacob said, “Now I will have even more grandkids to spoil.”
“Oh they’ll probably love you for that,” Carter said, “Right now they are keeping me up at night.”
“May I?” asked Jacob.
“Sure. There pretty quiet right now,” Carter said, “Ok maybe not.”
“That’s quite some kick they got,” Jacob said, “They may be the future members of SG-1.”
“Maybe but only if they want to,” Carter said.
“Hey. Yo. Have you two forgotten about me?” O’Neill asked.
“Sorry Jack,” Carter said.
“That’s alright. You were caught up in the moment and besides you down get to see your father that often anyway,” O’Neill said, “I have an idea there is this little diner near a sporting goods store. You go in the diner have some lunch and spent sometime with your father while I go into the sports goods store. Then I will me you and your father when I am done. Sound ok Carter?”
“Yeah but what could you possibly want at a sports goods store,” Carter said, “Nevermind I have a pretty good idea.”
“Well shall we go?” O’Neill asked.
“Just let me change into earth attire,” Jacob said.
O’Neill then said ok.
When Jacob was done they headed to the diner. Once there O’Neill told them he shouldn’t be long and that he would meet them in the diner.
In The Sports Goods Store/Diner (The Future):
O’Neill entered and went to the fishing section. He wanted to see what they had in poles for kids. When he found them he picked out the two he liked and paid for them. The he headed to the diner and when he got to the table Carter asked, “What’s in the bag?”
O’Neill sat down next to Carter, showed her and said, “I couldn’t resist.”
“You know they are not going to be able to use them until they are about 4 or 5,” Carter said.
“I know that but when they are able to use them I’m going to take them on their first fishing,” O’Neill said, “It doesn’t matter whether they are boys, girls or one of each.”
“Oh and let me guess you are also going to get them started on Fruit Loops too?” Carter asked.
“Yep but I will let you start them on astrophysics because you know how I understand that stuff,” O’Neill said.
“So who is ready to eat?” asked Jacob.
“I am,” Carter said.
“Hey can someone hand me a menu please?” O’Neill asked.
“Here you go,” Jacob said and then O’Neill thanked him.
Carter and O’Neill’s house at night (future vision):
O’Neill came out of the bathroom and said, “Your bath awaits you Carter.”
Carter slowly got up off the bed and walked to the bathroom. At the door way to the bathroom she stopped and gave O’Neill a kiss then said, “Thank You.”
“For what?” O’Neill asked.
“For giving me some time to spend with me father, the back and foot massage you gave me just awhile ago and the bath I am about to step into,” Carter said.
“Your welcome,” O’Neill said, “If you need anything I will be sitting out here engrossed in my electric fishing game.”
“Ok,” Carter said as she entered the bathroom.
Later the night Carter could not find a comfortable position to sleep in and the twins would not stop kicking long enough for her to get to sleep.
O’Neill woke up and asked, “Carter what’s wrong?”
“Can’t sleep,” Carter said.
“I have an idea,” O’Neill said.
O’Neill slid one arm around her back letting his had rest on her stomach and Carter put her head on his shoulder and one hand over his that rested on her stomach. She felt the twins calm down so she shut her eyes and fell fast asleep. O’Neill kissed her on the top of her forehead before falling back to sleep. Then he found himself somewhere else.
A Park in Colorado Springs (10 months from last vision):
“Jack is there something wrong?” Carter asked.
“No I was just thinking,” O’Neill said and then realized the meaning of what Jacob Carter had said to him that one day outside the infirmary. He also realized this must be another vision because he a had a stroller hand gripped in his hands.
“Looks like Susan wants her bottle,” Carter said.
“Then lets sit over there on that bench,” O’Neill said.
They walked over to it, sat down and Carter got out Susan’s bottle out of the baby bag. Then she took Susan out of the stroller and fed her.
“Looks like she fell fast asleep,” O’Neill said.
“Yeah I guess she had all she wanted and then went to sleep,” Carter said.
“Here why don’t I take her and you can put her bottle away,” O’Neill said.
“Ok,” Carter said as she handed O’Neill Susan and then put the bottle away.
Annie started to cry and Susan woke up then started crying too. O’Neill used one of his hands to tickle Susan and she just giggled. Carter picked up Annie, got her bottle and fed her.
“That’s what Annie wanted,” Carter said, “Her bottle.”
Susan fell back to sleep and O’Neill careful put her back in her stroller.
“Look at time,” Carter said as she looked at her watch.
“Why is the time so important?” O’Neill asked.
“Because your parents are coming into town so they can watch the twins while we are on a mission. Incase you have forgotten,” Carter said.
“Sorry I was busy being engrossed in the 3 women in my life,” O’Neill said.
Carter smiled at O’Neill and put Annie back in her stroller after burping her. Then she put the bottle in the baby bag.
“Ready to start heading back to the car?” O’Neill asked.
“Yeah,” Carter said as she got up.
They pushed the strollers and made there way back to the car.
O’Neill and Carter’s House that night (The Future):
“Mom can I speak to your for a minute?” O’Neill asked.
“Sure what do you want?” Mrs. O’Neill asked.
O’Neill told his mother the idea he had and said, “That’s wonderful. Now you go and start this idea of your,” Mrs. O’Neill said.
O’Neill headed upstairs to his and Carter’s bedroom to start his idea.
Carter heard one of the twins crying and started walking to the door but O’Neill stopped her.
“Jack,” Carter said.
“For one hour starting now my mom will be watching the twins,” O’Neill said.
“Why?” Carter asked.
“You’ll see,” O’Neill said as he headed to the bathroom.
“What are you doing?” Carter asked as she walked into the bathroom.
“Ok I will tell you most of it,” O’Neill said, “A bubble bath for two and then you will get a full body massage.”
“So that’s why your mother is watching them for an hour,” Carter said.
Carter and O’Neill enjoyed their bubble bath. Afterwards O’Neill gave Carter her full body massage. He left the room and Carter got into her nightclothes. When O’Neill returned he had the twins.
“Why are the twins in their snugglers?” Carter asked.
“Here you go,” O’Neill said as he handed Carter Susan and sat down on the bed.
Carter gave him a questioning look because he still hadn’t answered her question.
“Well I thought the twins could sleep with us,” O’Neill said.
“Why the snugglers then?” Carter asked.
“So I can have a free arm to warp around you,” O’Neill said.
“Sounds good to me,” Carter said as O’Neill as he put an arm around her.
They got comfy and the next thing he knew Carter and the twins were asleep.
His mother walked by and closed the door most of the way as she did that her son mouthed ‘Thank you’ and she mouthed back ‘Your Welcome.’ O’Neill turned of the lamp and fell asleep himself.
Back in the Caves (The Present):
Colonel O’Neill came back to reality but before he could say anything to Lt. Colonel Carter he fell off the rock he was sitting on. Lt. Colonel Carter turned around, saw the colonel on the floor of the cave. She grabbed her radio and contacted Daniel.
“Daniel sent Teal’c down here to the caves something has happened to the colonel,” Carter said.
“Like what?” Daniel asked over the radio.
“I don’t know one minute he is sitting on a rock out of reality and the next he lying on the cave floor,” Carter said.
The Town Hall:
“Ask her how long he was out of reality,” Taran said.
“Carter how long was Jack out of reality?” asked Daniel.
“About in hour or so. Why?” Carter asked.
“It must have been a vision. It doesn’t happen to off-world travelers that often,” Garin said.
“Garin thinks Jack had a vision,” Daniel said.
“I have sent for the seeker/healer. She will be able to help,” Taran said, “She will meet you at the entrance to the caves.”
“Alright,” Teal’c said.
“Teal’c is on his way Sam,” Daniel said.
“Ok. The good thing is he has a pulse,” Carter said over the radio.
Back in the Caves:
Carter sat down next to the colonel then saw two ghosts standing before her.
“Don’t worry Miss Carter my father is going to be alright,” Charlie said.
“He is right Samantha,” Susan said.
“Mom,” Carter said.
“I am here at the request of Charlie,” Susan said.
“Why are you here?” Carter asked.
“The same reason Charlie is here for his father,” Susan said.
“What might that be?” Carter asked.
“What does your heart want and need more than anything?” asked Susan, “Don’t answer now but think about it. We will be back.”
The ghosts disappeared and Carter sat there pondering the question.
The Caves Entrance:
“Are you the healer/seeker?” Teal’c asked.
“Yes and you are?” the healer/seeker asked.
“Teal’c,” Teal’c said, “Do you have a name?”
“Fairen,” Fairen said, “We should go.”
“Agreed,” Teal’c said.
The Caves:
They made their way through the maze of caves and found their way to were Lt. Colonel Carter and Colonel O’Neill were.
“He still as a pulse Teal’c,” Carter said, “Who is the person with you?”
“She is Fairen the healer/seeker of the Zara,” Teal’c said.
“If you will excuse me I need to get sweet water from the cave over,” Fairen said, “Before I can do anything.”
Fairen headed to the cave with the sweet water and the returned with a jug full.
“What is the sweet water for?” Carter asked.
“You will see,” Fairen said as she sprinkled some sweet water on O’Neill’s face. Then she said something in a alien tongue.
“What are you doing?” Carter asked.
“Here drink this,“ Fairen said as she handed Carter a glass of sweet water.
“Why?” Carter asked.
“Just do it,” Fairen said, “It won’t harm you.”
Carter drank the sweet water and Fairen said, “He will awake in the morning so you may want to get some sleep.”
“I will head back to the town hall and get Daniel Jackson,” Teal’c said.
“Is he with Taran because if he is I will bring him here in the morning,” Fairen said.
“Yes. Thank you,” Teal’c said.
“Your welcome,” Fairen said and then she left.
“Here Teal’c take my radio in case Daniel tries to contact us on my radio,” Carter said.
“Agreed,” Teal’c said, “Do want to take second watch?”
“You can wake me for the second watch and I will wake you for the third one,” Carter said.
Carter took O’Neill’s back pack and put it under his head as a make shift pillow of sorts but not before taking out his sleeping bag and covering him up. She then took out her sleeping bag from her backpack and covered herself up while using her own backpack as a pillow. The next thing she knew was Teal’c waking her up for the 2nd watch. When the 2nd watch was over she went back to sleep not knowing the ghost of her mother grabbed her hand. She then found herself in a corridor of the SGC or was it a dream.
“You are having your vision. What I will show you will help understand what you heart needs and wants more then anything,” Susan said as she waved her hand slowly. “What you will see will happen in the next 2 years.”
Carter watched the visions as they went by but to her amazement Colonel O’Neill was in all of them. When the visions ended the ghost of her mother came up to her and said, “Do you understand what your heart wants and needs more then anything?”
“Yes I do,” Carter said.
“Charlie you know what to do next,” Susan said.
Charlie went and got his father.
“What now?” Carter asked.
“You and O’Neill must walk into the hole of light. You will have to hold hands or only one of you will wake up,” Susan said.
Charlie brought his father closer to Carter and stepped back. Susan moved closer to Charlie.
“You know what this means Carter your father had something to do with getting that regulation changed, dropped or something,” O’Neill said.
“That idea you told me that it looked like he had when he talked to you,” Carter said.
“You know what that means,” O’Neill said.
“Yep but I think we should make sure that it doesn’t interfere with our work,” Carter said.
“Ok as long as we get to do that good romantic stuff when work is over with for the day or on downtime,” O’Neill said grinning.
“You bet,” Carter said smiling.
“Ok. Hug and kiss already,” Charlie said.
They did just that then grabbed hands and started to walk to the hole of light. Before entering the ghosts said something.
“I will leave my daughter in your capable hands O’Neill,” Susan said.
“Now where have I heard that before,” O’Neill said.
“I will leave my father in your capable hands Carter,” Charlie said.
“Never forget us or any of what you have seen today,” Susan said.
“We never have,” Carter said smiling.
“And never will,” O’Neill said smiling.
With that said they walked into the hole of light holding hands.
The Caves:
When Carter and O’Neill awoke they found Daniel, Teal’c and Fairen in the cave as well as Garin and Taran.
“Who is she?” O’Neill asked.
“She is Fairen the healer/seeker of the Zara,” Carter said.
“What time is it anyway?” O’Neill asked.
“It’s morning,” Daniel said, “We can head back to the Stargate and tell General Hammond that we should meet the Zara when they go to Atoofroza and help them from there.”
“Ok,” O’Neill said.
“Here is your radio back Colonel Carter,” Teal’c said.
“Thanks Teal’c,” Carter said as she grabbed her radio.
O’Neill and Carter put their sleeping bags in their backpacks, grabbed them and got up.
“Let’s start heading back to the Stargate then,” O’Neill said.
“Agreed,” said Teal’c, Daniel and Carter.
Once they where back at the SGC. Daniel informed the general of the plan to meet the Zara on Atoofroza a few days from now. When Daniel left the General’s office O’Neill and Carter walked in.
Gen. Hammond’s Office:
“General Hammond when-,”O’Neill said but he was interrupted.
“This,” Hammond said as he opened one of his desk drawers, “Will explain everything.”
Hammond handed the envelope to Lt. Colonel Carter and her and O’Neill headed to the briefing room to find out what it said after Hammond dismissed them.
The Briefing Room:
“Ok open it and find out what it says,” O’Neill said.
“I’m opening it now,” Carter said.
Once Carter had the envelope open she took out the paper inside, put the envelope on the table and began reading it.
Dear Sam,
At the time you are reading this you and Jack are wondering about that regulation well I had something to do with that and now it’s fixed so you and Jack can be together forever. I did it because I want happiness for you and I’m sure your mother would to if she was alive. Besides any man who would die for you and care about you more then anything deserves you.
Your Father,
Jacob
P.S. See you soon.
A tear of joy ran down Carter’s face as she smiled at O’Neill.
“So are you going to tell me what you are smiling about,” O’Neill said.
“Well two things,” Carter said, “What my father said in this letter and you.”
“What does the letter say?” O’Neill asked.
She read the letter but leaving out the last sentence because she didn’t want him to know her father knew.
“Come here,” O’Neill said as he held out his hands.
Carter picked up the envelope off the table, put the letter back it in and the embraced O’Neill in a hug. They looked at each other smiling for a minute.
“We can continue this later when we are off-duty,” O’Neill said.
“Yeah we don’t want it to interfere with our work,” Carter said.
“See you later,” Carter said.
“See you later too,” O’Neill said, “Oh Carter.”
“What?” Carter asked.
“I love you,” O’Neill said.
“I love you too,” Carter said.
The End of Part 2.
